Postcard of a streetcar drawn by a mule or donkey. The streetcar is being pulled along a track in the center of a street that is bordered by buildings. The picture shows Matamoros, Mexico across the border from Brownsville, Texas. There is a letter on the back of the postcard addressed to "Miss Maria Sanchy" from "E. M." that reads, "Ni la ausencia y la distancia, ni el tiempo de no [v]erte; por ningunas sircustancias he de dejar de quererte, yours for ever." (Loosely: "Neither the absence and the distance, nor the time since I have seen you; under no circumstances have I stopped loving you.")

[Rainbow & Veteran's Memorial Bridges]
Color photo postcard picturing the new Veteran's Memorial Bridge in front of the older Rainbow Bridge. These bridges connect Bridge City and Port Arthur, Texas over the Neches River. Written on the back of the card, "Twin bridges span the Neches River connecting Bridg City & Port Arthur. The cable-stayed Veteran's Memorial Bridge was dedicated on Sept. 8, 1990, 52 years after the Rainbow Bridge. The clearance of the new bridge is 143 feet; the old bridge is 176 feet." It is postmarked Bridge City, Texas on Sept 8, 1990.

[U.S. Troops in Mexico]
U.S. Troop in Mexico. Punitive Expedition Troops somewhere in Mexico. Walter H. Horne does not provide us with any specific information about the exact location of these Troops; or to which Unit these Troops are a part of. However since they are in Mexico, these Troops are undoubtedly part of General Pershing's Punitive Expedition in Mexico ca. 1916 - 1917. The unknown group of men are part of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Most of the men look tired and dirty but a few men have managed to smile for the camera. There are several horses in the background as well as at least 3 supply wagons. Back of the postcard in parenthesis: "5th over the river", according to research, in 1916, the 5th Calvary Regiment was dispatched to the Texas - Mexico border to serve as part of the Pancho Villa Expedition. The "river" in this case is the Rio Grande River. This postcard is addressed to: Miss Elvira Weakland, 1928 - 13 Ave., Altoona, PA. It reads: 'My O My isn't [sic] it warm if i only had some ice put some in your next letter.', Pat. The postcard is post marked El Paso, Texas, August 1, 1916. A …

[U.S. Troop Camp in Mexico]
Chow time - Punitive Expedition Troops somewhere in Mexico. These soldiers, who are part of General Pershing's Punitive Expedition into Mexico, take time to eat and rest. The soldiers sit in tall grass. Zoom in on this image to see close ups of some of the men eating in this photographic event. See also image titled: [U.S. Troops in Mexico] WH-PC-196-009 - same photograph series. Walter H. Horne, does not leave us with any information about where he or these troops were when this image was captured. We also do not have the name for this army unit. However since this image was captured in Mexico, ca. 1916, the troops were part of Pershing's Punitive Expedition into Mexico. The only information written on the back of the image is: '5th over the river'. This is a postcard from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by K. Wallace. In this brief letter, Wallace informs Moore about the death of a family member. She details that all of her immediate family is doing well and that she hopes the same for Charles and his family. At the close of the letter, Wallace discusses an upcoming trip to Dallas and sends her love to all.

H.S. Moore is having 100 to 102 degree weather and has seen a second comet that was not as bright. Maria is doing better. George Kendall has started picking cotton. He missed two sermons, but received a private sermon from Bro. Noble. He was able to have more of a conversation with him. Bro. Penn was ill. Mrs. Welbom moved to Sasby and is going to keep a boarding house. The prairies have every kind of livestock coming. Owls and skunks are going after chickens. A rooster fell into the hogs' pen. William Hubford is suffering from an old wound. Jeff Love picks about 100 pounds of cotton every afternoon. Coffman and Scott went to sell dry goods, but their cash box was emptied of $40. Captain Russell has a sign in his salon that says, "In God We Trust." Aunt Ann is doing well.
