Shapiro also discusses her initial involvement in local politics, her election to the Plano, Texas, City Council (1979-1990), her election as mayor of Plano (1990), her election to the Texas Legislature (1992), her views on social and fiscal conservatism and abortion, and the evolution of the Republican Party in Collin County, Texas.
