Photograph of channel type terraces constructed in 1951. These are closed terraces. Note the water held by the terraces on the morning after 2 inch rain and hail storm with a small tornado. This field has been placed in the Acreage Reserve program. This land will be summer fallowed and will be drilled to wheat for the fall of 1958.

This view is to be compared with OKLA 5310, which shows a nearby field which has the same soil and is about the same slope, but which is planted in straight rows up and down the slopes and the cotton is very poor, as, in this season of very slight rainfall, what did fall was kept on the contour-farmed field, but was lost on the other. Photograph of harvest cutting. It takes good logs to make good homes. To keep this mill operating continuously the Stauter Lumber Company buys logs from the McCurtain County Land Utilization [LU] Project formerly administered by the Soil Conservation Service. Increased timber volume enabled this mill to employ 85 people where none worked before. OK-315-12.
