Comparison of outside-surface heat-transfer coefficients for cascades of turbine blades (open access)

Comparison of outside-surface heat-transfer coefficients for cascades of turbine blades

A comparison of available results from heat-transfer investigations on cascades of turbine blades is presented using the Nusselt equation. The conventional correlation procedure is modified by defining the Reynolds number by the average of the velocities and the pressures around the blades. The correlation of the results from impulse blades was improved by using the Reynolds number defined by the average velocity and pressure. The final comparison indicated that several variables, which possibly influence heat transfer, should be investigated.

Elliptic Cones Alone and with Wings at Supersonic Speed

"To help fill the gap in the knowledge of aerodynamics of shapes intermediate between bodies of revolution and flat triangular wings, force and moment characteristics for elliptic cones have been experimentally determined for Mach numbers of 1.97 and 2.94. Elliptic cones having cross-sectional axis ratios from 1 through 6 and with lengths and base areas equal to circular cones of fineness ratios 3.67 and 5 have been studied for angles of bank of 0 degree and 90 degrees. Elliptic and circular cones in combination with triangular wings of aspect ratios 1 and 1.5 also have been considered" (p. 975).

Performance of Compressor of Xj-41-v Turbojet Engine, 3, Compressor Static-Pressure Rise at Equivalent Compressor Speeds of 5000, 7000, 8000, and 9000 RPM (open access)

Performance of Compressor of Xj-41-v Turbojet Engine, 3, Compressor Static-Pressure Rise at Equivalent Compressor Speeds of 5000, 7000, 8000, and 9000 RPM

"At the request of the Air Materiel Command, Army Air Forces, an investigation is being conducted at the NACA Cleveland laboratory to determine the performance characteristics of the XJ-41-V turbojet-engine compressor. The static-pressure variation in the direction of flow through the compressor was presented in reference 1 for an equivalent speed of 8000 rpm. An analysis of these pressure indicated that the maximum-flow limitation of the compressor was caused by separation, which reduced the effective flow area at the vaned-collector entrance" (p. 1).

Internal Conversion Coefficients of the 2+-0+, E2 Transitions in Even-Even Sm152[over]90 and Gd152[over]88 (open access)

Internal Conversion Coefficients of the 2+-0+, E2 Transitions in Even-Even Sm152[over]90 and Gd152[over]88

From abstract: "To investigate the deviation of the internal conversion coefficients of E2 transitions from theoretical computations and their dependence on nuclear deformation, the total internal conversion coefficient of the 121.8-kev 2+-0+ transition in ellipsoidal Sm152[over]90 was measured to be 1.135 ± 0.010 with a high accuracy coincidence-sum method. The K-shell to total internal conversion ratio was determined to be 0.588 ± 0.003 with a [beta] spectrometer...The experiment revealed no deviation from theory nor indications of strong dependence on nuclear deformation; it therefore did not confirm recent beliefs in this regard. The details of the coincidence-sum method were described. The K electron to total electron capture ratio, from Eu152 to the 1.53 Mev state in Sm152 was also measured to be 0.79±0.02."

Energy Spectrum of 320 Mev Deuterons From He3 (open access)

Energy Spectrum of 320 Mev Deuterons From He3

The previous calculation of the energy spectrum of the high energy deuteron beam from the stripping of He3 (UCRL-2150) was thought to be in error, especially as regards the low energy tail, on the basis of some experiments with the neutron time-of-flight detector, which indicated a considerably narrower spectrum than that calculated in UCRL-2150. Since the value used for the attenuation cross section of deuterons in uranium is considerably lower than that presently considered correct a new calculation was made using this latter cross section. Since the equations used in this new calculation differ somewhat from those used in the previous report a brief derivation is given here.
