Photograph taken for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. Caption: "Death won't take a holiday TODAY. While children play, while grownups enjoy the work-less day, death will continue taking its toll. Safety first is the weapon that is most effective against this dread enemy. America has materially reduced its Fourth of July sacrifice to death as far as fireworks fatalities, drowning and other accidents are concerned, but not in the number of automobile deaths. Last year, automobiles claimed 69 lives in the nation on Independence day---fireworks only one. The percentage of automobile deaths was even greater during the preceding years. In 1933 there were 82 traffic deaths; 1932 had 117 and 1931 had 161. What about the 1935 Independence day sacrifice?"
