A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated July 5, 1972. Burleson expresses his appreciation for Carswell's letter and kind comments noting their agreement on the need to maintain the Nation's security. He advises of the so-called Revenue Sharing proposal passing the House, of his vote against it and of the enclosed copy of dissenting views he filed with the Committee. An enclosure includesd a document titled "Additional Dissenting Views of Honorable Omar Burleson," a discussion by Burleson of a bill that he introduced in 1969 and again in 1971 to decentralize two programs bogged down with red tape. The Committee's bill does the opposite by compounding the existing over-centralization and costing the taxpayer. Good government is economical and efficient and provides services desired by the people.

Hassett expresses appreciation from the President for the letter from Carswell, for "this frank and thoughtful expression of your views". A letter written to Mr. Carswell from "A Jeffersonian Democrat," Abilene, Texas, dated July 23, 1954. An anonymous writer expresses anger regarding a letter sent by Carswell addressed to "Friends and voters in Precinct 12," accusing Carswell and Allan Shivers of having split the Democratic Party, the consequence of which "will no doubt have Jefferson and Jackson turn over in their graves." The envelope also contained three identical convention ribbons imprited "Delegate Taylor County, State Democratic Convention, September 14, 1954, Mineral Wells." The envelope into which the letter and ribbons were placed is also included in the record. The envelope is addressed to "Mr. Turn-coat Carswell, College Heights School, Abilene, Texas postmarked Abilene, Texas, July 23, 1954."

Bryant expresses his appreciation for the article Carswell submitted to The Baptist Standard published on July 27, 1960 citing the importance to Hardin-Simmons University from the article having been published.

Johnson replies to the letter from Carswell in which he requests to join the service and addresses his desire to serve as "the old itch" advising him to contact Ft. Sam Houston, Texas as they may be able to use him but the age limit in his outfit is 50, even for a full Colonel.

Maisel appoints Carswell as Chairman of the RULES Committee for the Department War Conference and discusses the arrangements to be made at Fort Worth for meeting rooms and bulletin boards.

Leslie, Captain, Company A, 11th Bn., Texas Defense Guard, San Angelo, Texas, dated July 9, 1941. Leslie acknowledges the receipt of Carswell's communication and advises that the copies requested have, on each occasion, been forwarded in duplicate; one to Battalion Headquarters, one to the Adjutant General.

Coombes expresses his regret regarding Carswell's request for rodeo tickets that was not complied with.
