Patent for a new and improved planter. This design "has relation to that class of cotton and corn planters in which are hoppers smaller at their top than at their bottom and hoppers larger at their top than at their bottom, to adapt them for planting cotton-seed and corn, respectively. It is the object of the invention to provide the planter with interchangeable hoppers of the above construction, whereby either can be used upon the same machine, as found desirable, the hopper-seat being especially adapted to receive and hold thereon either one of the hoppers" (lines 12-24).

This design consists in "the combination, with the triangular end plates having the bearing-notches, the detachable connecting-bar provided with the threaded ends and shoulders, the thumb-nuts, the smooth rollers, and the coiled springs, of the crank-handle and the [other] roller provided with the teeth having square flat faces and flat sides at right angles to said faces and arranged in aligned longitudinal series and spirally arranged circumferentially, the areas of the teeth being one-fourth of an inch" (lines 7-18).

Car Coupling.
Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "consist[s] of a draw-head having a spring-actuated sliding piece projecting into the draw-head, with a shouldered end therein, and a hole adapted to register with the coupling-holes in the draw-head, a coupling-link having yielding slotted pieces pivoted at its ends above slots in the ends of the link, and a coupling-pin with reacting spring mounted in a frame having a winding-drum, and a rope connected with the coupling-pin, the latter projecting through and engaging the sliding piece and link" (lines 76-87).
