Inside of the notebook are pages of notebook paper with cursive writing on them.

The photo is surrounded by a golden inlay with a similar design. It is an unknown portrait which was brought back from Texas from Tennessee after the Civil War.

The pins in the second picture resemble a seal with an eagle at the top and a castle in the middle. Words around the bottom read "American Military Engineers". The pin in the third picture is green and decorative and has a white banner across the middle that reads "1901".
