A Dithizone Method for the Determination of Lead in Monazite
The following report discusses a method for determining lead in monazite to be used as a basis for geologic age measurements. In order to develop the method it was necessary to eliminate interferences due to the presence of phosphates of thorium and the rare-earth metals.

From abstract: This is a review, with annotated bibliography, of the mode of occurrence of the element beryllium. It is not a list of specific ore deposits, but a summary of the types of the types of minerals and rocks in which beryllium has been reported to occur. Abstract: "In this report is assembled the available information about the dissociation and melting of the alkali and the alkaline earth carbonates and the binary systems they form with each other. Information is also included about the oxides formed on dissociation of the carbonates, and when it exists pertinent information about the effect of water. Because the carbonates are compounds in binary systems that contain the volatile CO2 component, the report contains a discussion of the complicated phase equilibrium relations in systems in which a compound is formed between volatile and nonvolatile components, including a discussion both of systems in which the solubility curve does not and does intersect the critical curve."

From abstract: In 1948, 7,662 miles of roadside rocks and soils in Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeastern New York were traversed with a car-mounted Geiger-Mueller counter. The observed distribution of the abnormally radioactive rocks and soils is limited to certain areas, herein called "radioactive provinces," that are separated from each other by areas of essentially nonradioactive rock.

Availability of Water from Limestone and Dolomite Aquifers in Southwest Ohio and the Relation of Water Quality to the Regional Flow System
Abstracts: The largest ground-water supplies from the 150 to 450-foot thick carbonate-rock aquifer in southwest Ohio are available in a 2,800 square-mile area on the crest and eastern flank of the Cincinnati arch. Well production in the high-yield area is mainly from the Newburg zone, a permeable stratum in the lower part of the Bass Island group. A structure contour map on the top of the Lockport Dolomite shows that the Newburg zone conforms to the configuration of the Cincinnati arch. The chemical quality of the water in the consolidated-rock aquifers is intimately related to the regional flow system, and undergoes a progressive change from a calcium bicarbonate-type in recharge areas to a calcium sulfate-type in areas of natural discharge.
