Greens Creek Uranium Occurrence, Marquette County, Michigan (open access)

Greens Creek Uranium Occurrence, Marquette County, Michigan

From abstract: Metatorbernite and bassetite are present in altered carbonaceous and quartzose slate of probable upper Huronian age. The slate is part of a small inlier of Huronian rocks between the Gwinn iron district to the southeast and the Marquette iron district to the northwest, Marquette County, Mich. Samples taken from a shallow trench, which was dug in the area of highest radioactivity, contained as much as 0.68 percent uranium. A 4-foot channel sample of the slate contained 0.036 percent uranium.

Reconnaissance for a Uranothorianite-Bearing Lode in the Vicinity of the Headwaters of the Peace River, Candle Quadrangle, Seward Peninsula, Alaska (open access)

Reconnaissance for a Uranothorianite-Bearing Lode in the Vicinity of the Headwaters of the Peace River, Candle Quadrangle, Seward Peninsula, Alaska

From abstract: Reconnaissance in 1947 found uranothorianite and gummite associated with copper sulfides, iron oxides, molybdenite, gold, silver, bismuth, and thorite in placers of a headwater tributary of the Peace River in the eastern part of the Seward Peninsula, Alaska. Brief radiometric reconnaissance early in the summer of 1952 failed to locate the bedrock source of the radioactive minerals at the head of the Peace River, primarily because of the shielding-effect of widespread tundra cover. The samples obtained in 1952 indicate the presence of galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, covellite, and fluorite in addition to the minerals reported in the results of the 1947 reconnaissance.

Preliminary Report on the Geology and Uranium Deposits of South Elk Ridge, San Juan County, Utah (open access)

Preliminary Report on the Geology and Uranium Deposits of South Elk Ridge, San Juan County, Utah

From abstract: Elk Ridge is in southeastern Utah in the central part of San Juan County. It forms a conspicuous ridge on the north end of the Monument upwarp. During the summer of 1953 field work was largely restricted to South Elk Ridge, that part of Elk Ridge which is south of The Notch. Permian and Triassic sedimentary rocks crop out in the area and Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks are exposed east of the area.

Reconnaissance for Radioactive Material in the Shinarump Conglomerate at Balanced Rock Anticline, San Juan County, Utah (open access)

Reconnaissance for Radioactive Material in the Shinarump Conglomerate at Balanced Rock Anticline, San Juan County, Utah

Abstract: A reconnaissance for radioactive minerals in the Shinarump conglomerate of Triassic age exposed north of the San Juan River at Balanced Rock anticline was made in July 1953. The purpose of the reconnaissance was to search for any exposed uranium minerals and to determine the favorability of the Shinarump for accumulation of uranium-ore deposits. No uranium minerals or places of abnormally high radioactivity were observed. However, nine exposed channels at the base of the Shinarump conglomerate and other channels, probably present where the base of the Shinarump is concealed, indicate the Shinarump may be favorable for uranium-ore deposits.

Uranium-Bearing Deposits West of Clancey, Jefferson County, Montana (open access)

Uranium-Bearing Deposits West of Clancey, Jefferson County, Montana

From abstract: Nine uranium deposits occur in a small area west of Clancey, Jefferson County, Mont. These deposits are all in or near silicified fracture zones in quartz monzonite and related rocks of the Boulder batholith. The deposits contain pockets of uranium minerals in cavities in brecciated well-silicified rock. The primary uranium mineral pitchblende has been found in one pod. Secondary uranium minerals occur as fracture linings and in pore spaces in and adjacent to the silicified zones.
