Report describing various kinds of soils and their characteristics, for use in constructing roads and airfields: "The properties desired in soils for foundations under roads and airfields and for base courses under flexible pavements are: adequate strength, good compaction characteristics, adequate drainage, resistance to frost action in areas where frost is a factor, and acceptable compression and expansion characteristics. Certain of these properties, if inadequate in the soils available, may be supplied by proper construction methods" (p. B1).

Report of findings from various tests: "Model investigations of the surges occurring in sewer lines and of the flow conditions in a typical pumping plant, used to dispose of drainage during high river stages, were conducted as a part of the local flood protection project for Louisville, Kentucky. Studies conducted on a 1:32 scale simplified model of the Southern Outfall Sewer provided general information on the relative amount of relief from surges to be expected from the pumping station and manholes in the sewer line upstream" (p. v).

Foreword: This report covers one part of a comprehensive study to determine the relationship between the trafficability of soils and the mobility of military vehicles.

Preface: This report presents the results of a condition survey performed on taxiway 3 at March AFB, Riverside, California, in June 1955 in accordance with addendum 3 to Instructions and Outline, "Condition Surveys for Existing Pavements."
