The following report covers the study of a small composite stock at Oak Spring, Nevada, known as Climax granite to study the seismic effect of a deep nuclear explosion contained in a large volume of unfractured rock.

Abstract: The results of both dry and wet attritioning of Temple Mountain ore are presented. In order to obtain effective attritioning on this ore, the amphaltite must be removed before attritioning. With the asphaltite present, dry attritioning causes a build-up of asphaltite on the surface of sand grains, with consequent loss of uranium values. In wet attritioning, the asphaltite is not broken down or attritioned, because of its low specific gravity and resilience.

From Purpose and Scope of Study: "The McDermitt NTMS Quadrangle, Nevada, was evaluated to identify and delineate areas and geologic units that exhibit characteristics favorable for the occurrence of uranium deposits. Geologic environments were evaluated primarily on the basis of surface investigations; only a limited amount of subsurface data was available. Each environment was categorized as favorable, unfavorable, or unevaluated for uranium deposits."

The purpose of this study is to investigate anisotropy of mechanical properties, namely, compressive strength and modulus, for Tiva Canyon welded tuff from the starter tunnel at Yucca Mountain. Mechanical properties of Tiva Canyon Tuff are needed for the design of the ramps and drifts within the Tiva Canyon horizon. Approximately one cubic foot block samples, all of which were from the thermo -- mechanical unit TCw, were obtained from a muck pile containing excavated rock from the starter tunnel. Specimens were cored from the block samples in two distinct orientations: parallel and perpendicular to the lithophysal cavity orientation. Since lithophysal cavity orientation is predominantly horizontal in the field, parallel specimens can be considered horizontal and perpendicular specimens vertical with respect to the rock mass. The specimens were NX sized (5.4 cm diameter) and had a length-to-diameter ratio of 2:1. The air dried specimens were tested at room temperature in a triaxial chamber at confining pressures of 0.1, 5, and 10 MPa, and at a compressive axial strain rate of 10{sup {minus}5} s{sup {minus}}. The Young`s Modulus values were calculated by a least squares fit of stress - strain data between 10 and 50% of the ultimate strength.

Weston thanking Mr. and Mrs. David for their greetings on the occasion of his anniversary which they spent quietly in Gladstone with Mary Jean, who signed a separation agreement with Oakleigh and the divorce will require either Oakleigh or Mary Jean going to Reno. Letters sent to her should be addressed as Mrs. Kempner Thorne.

Letter from D. W. Kempner to Mrs. Frances Ullman thanking her for the wishes she sent on the occasion of his Anniversary. Mr. Kempner mentions that they had pleasant time with Mary Jean who has now signed a divorce with Oakleigh and one of them will have to go to Reno with their attorney to complete the same. Danny is doing well, Mr. Kempner returned with Gladys by Plane and Jeane returns by automobile.

Report discussing deposits of uranium in beds of carbonaceous shale and lignite in the Goose Creek district. The highest concentrations of uranium were found in the central part of the Salt Lake formation.
