The Distribution of Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in the Colorado Plateau Relative to Tertiary Intrusive Masses (open access)

The Distribution of Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in the Colorado Plateau Relative to Tertiary Intrusive Masses

Introduction: Studies of uranium-vanadium occurrences in the Four Corners region show that, with the exception of the Lukachuai area, all of the major deposits in the Morrison formation are grouped around the various igneous masses which are scattered irregularly throughout the Colorado Plateau. The pattern of deposition varies from mountain group to mountain group and each will be described separately. Maps accompany this report to supplement the descriptions of ore occurrences in the vicinity of the La Sal, Abajo, Carrizo, and Henry mountains. Elsewhere, it is believed that a written description will suffice.

[Maps of Metal-Mining Districts in Colorado]

Three maps illustrating distribution of metal deposits in metal-mining districts in Colorado. The first map is a geological survey indicating uranium deposits, rock characteristics, and the location of the Central Mining District in relationship to counties in Colorado. The second map shows pitchblende deposits and bostonite dikes in the Front Range Mineral Belt near Central City, Colorado. The third map near indicates the locations of pitchblende deposits alongside metal vein systems near Central City, Colorado

Uranium in the Metal-Mining Districts of Colorado

"This paper summarizes the results of the field studies of the Survey's Reconnaissance Group and outlines some geologic criteria that may be useful in guiding the search for uranium ore. The writers wish to acknowledge the cooperation of the minding companies and individuals who materially aided the program of investigations by reporting radioactive localities and by submitting samples of radioactive rocks and ores."
