COBRA Program - RC Transformation in Montana (AFRC Great Falls MT)

Report issued by the U.S. Bureau of Mines on the sampling of chrome ore deposits in the western United States. Physical properties of the samples collected are presented. This report includes tables.

From abstract: Nine uranium deposits occur in a small area west of Clancey, Jefferson County, Mont. These deposits are all in or near silicified fracture zones in quartz monzonite and related rocks of the Boulder batholith. The deposits contain pockets of uranium minerals in cavities in brecciated well-silicified rock. The primary uranium mineral pitchblende has been found in one pod. Secondary uranium minerals occur as fracture linings and in pore spaces in and adjacent to the silicified zones.

This report provides results on the geological studies of uranium deposits discovered in the southeastern part of Montana.

This report provides the results to an airborne radiometric reconnaissance made in central Montana, the Sweetgrass Hills and Arch area, and Clancy area of the Boulder batholith that was completed in October 1953. This report is divided into three parts, each area is discussed separately according to its geology, the airborne procedures employed, and the conclusions reached.

These reports summarized field observations and contained preliminary evaluations of geologic environments for uranium deposition. The identification of environments favorable for uranium deposition involved collection and interpretation of radiometric, geochemical, and geologic data."
