Preparing Linguists’ Field Recordings and Datasets for Ingest into a Digital Library System: Lessons from Creating the Lamkang Language Resource at the University of North Texas Digital Library

Presentation on the long term preservation of and universal access to language data which may tap into typologically rare phenomena and which represents the intangible and irreplaceable heritage of indigenous communities. This language data can be in the form of audio, video, picture, and various digital formats. In order to prepare the source files of a documentation project for ingest to a digital library, linguists and digital librarians must develop a common procedure that takes into consideration (1) provenance and varying formats of materials and (2) necessary metadata specific to linguistic datasets.

Two Decades of Advances in Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Presentation for Texas Conference on Digital Libraries 2019. This presentation discusses several emerging trends and scenarios that change the directions of scholarship in general: ranging from the availability of interoperable Open Access contents to cross discipline collaborations, big data and global and explosive growth of social networking. In particular, this presentation provides ETDs evolution in the last twenty years and provide example using the UNT experience. As one of the early adopters of ETD in 1999, the closer look at UNT's ETD collection provide interesting data about the the overall change in ETD production, usages, including locations and types of devices users used to access the ETD collection.

Electrostatic equilibria of non-neutral plasmas confined in a Penning trap with axially varying magnetic field (open access)

Electrostatic equilibria of non-neutral plasmas confined in a Penning trap with axially varying magnetic field

This article describes a procedure for computing the electrostatic equilibria of non-neutral plasmas in a Penning trap with a nonuniform magnetic field by solving Poisson's equation using an iterative method. Plasma equilibria in a model Penning trap with high and low field regions are computed. The plasma is assumed to follow the Boltzmann density distribution along magnetic field lines.
