Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Downpouring rains were too much for storm sewers along this section of U.S. 66 east of Bethany in Sunday's afternoon's storms, and this high water resulted. Numerous branches and trees came down in Bethany as violent storms ripped roofs off several homes in the extreme northwest section of the city. Storms criss-crossed sections of the city at least three times, dumping hail and pounding rains, plus vicious winds, each trip."

Caption: "A total flow of 51,000 acre feet of water - enough to fill Lake Overholser and raise Lake Hefner to within 8,000 acre feet of full - was promised Oklahoma City Friday as government river watchers raised their estimates as to the size of crests moving down the North Canadian. M. B. Cunningham, city water superintendent, announced the increasingly optimistic results of a new study at river conditions a few hours after city councilmen agreed to immediate removal of all water bans, except the restriction on lawn sprinkling, which still stands. "The river report figures still are not complete. The 51,000 acre feet estimate was hurriedly compiled. We are very hopeful that a more detailed analysis and unreported rains will increase the amount to where we can expect the lakes to be completely filled," he said. First 'Full' Estimate This was the first time city officials have admitted the possiblity the two lakes, which were short 59,000 acres feet of water before runoff from the rains below Canton dam began pouring into the lakes early Friday night be completely filled."

Gary Monday asked for immediate passage of a 7-month 1-cent gasoline tax boost. The Oklahoma state senate late Monday afternoon approved a temporary 1-cent additional gasoline tax - the first general tax increase since the war - as a method for repairing roads and bridges damaged in last week's floods...Gary told lawmakers that the tax boost was the only method the state had for replacing roads and bridges washed out during the flooding."

Thousands of good people have the notion that an orphanage is a mild sort of penal institution, a house of correction, a place for incorrigibles, a place where charachter, manners and citizenship are molded by force or hard-boiledness. Forget those notions! They are wholly wrong. the Methodist home is as good a home for children as you ever saw. Love, liberty courtesy, understanding, cleanliness, neighborliness, honor, tolerance, simplicity, reasonalness-those are the main watchwords in this home, plus purity of purpose, thought and action."

Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "A crude oil line under a house in southeastern Oklahoma City exploded Monday destroying the house and damaging three others in a sea of blazing oil. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Williams at 312 SE 49 was destroyed. The couple was in the front part of the home when the explosion ripped the back out of the house. They were not injured. The burning oil sent billowing smoke hundreds of feet in the air. Fire inspector E. L. "Buddy" Koch said a 6-inch oil line owned by the Champlin Oil Co. ran through the alley behind the homes. He said he thought there was an abandoned line that ran under the Williams' home to an abandoned oil well directly across the street. Burning oil and wood spread to the homes of Mrs. Otis Warrior at 316 SE 49, on the east of the Williams' home; and to Mrs. Darlene Jenkins, 306 SE 49, on the west. All escaped injury. Debris from the Williams' home flew across the alley and burned two spots in the roof of the Mrs. Melvin Curry home at 309 SE 50. Williams, …
