Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Doesn't say I called out the national guard 23 times while I was governor. It was only five. The rest were executive orders." The speaker? Who else but William H. "Alfalfa Bill" Murray, former governor, author, president of the state constitutional convention and the man who tried to wrest the presidential nomination away from another governor in 1932, Franklin D. Roosevelt. When "Alfalfa Bill was in office, there was never any doubt in anybody's mind who was governor. It was not only known inside the borders of Oklahoma, but from coast to coast, the Canadian border, the Gulf od Mexico and perhaps several ships at sea. He Still Gets Around And now at 80-plus the "Sage of Tishomingo" has lost little of his old fire......Recently he attended the deication ceremonies of the new lodge and cabins at Lake Murray. The lake recreation park was conceived during his administration and was named in his honor. the day of the ceremony, he sat for several hours on the speaker's platform greeting old friends and ackowledging introduction in typical Murray fashion."
