Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Here's what happens when a 16-ton load rolls onto a structure capable of handling only five tons. Wrecked is a 150-foot span of the bridge over the South Canadian river near Norman. It collapsed when an earth-moving truck, right photo, weighing 16 tons, crossed it. The driver, Monroe Barwick, 19, Kingston, was not hurt, although he was badly shaken. A car, left photo, which was following about 50 feet behind the truck, was badly damaged and a passenger hurt seriously. Orel Busby, 63, Ada, former state supreme court justice, suffered a crushed vertebra. Driver of the car, Austin Deaton, also of Ada, escaped serious injury. The span went down about 12:30 p.m., under a Diesel-powered Amis Construction Co. machine driven by Monore Barwick jr., 19, Kingston. A girder carrying full weight of the collapsing truss plummeled onto the hood of a car about 50 feet behind the earth mover. Prominent Attorney Injury Orel Busby, 63, widely-known Ada attorney, a passenger in the car, suffered a crushed vetebra. barwick and the other driver, Austin Deaton, Ada, escaped serious injury. Highway department engineers and maintenance crews, insurance men and highway patrolmen clambered across the wreckage all afternoon, trying to determine exact cause of the accident and extent of bridge damage. The bridge's posted weight limit is five tons. Highway patrol trooper V. R. Anderson said …
