McCarter and Cason write that after reviewing their budget they have found that they will be able to fund one team from DISD at 100% for the first year at the Institute, yet after one year they are unsure that they'll be able to get more funding from the Getty Center to allow Dallas as a consortium. Included at the end of the letter is a mock-up of what Dallas will be entitled to during their Summer institute Services.

As HEB ISD goes forward to build their budget for the next two years, McCarter writes if it is possible to build additional compensation for a position similar to one Pam had assumed that year, the goals of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts is that districts take on leadership in planning and holding their own Institutes. Enclosed with the letter are two invoices.

Thanking McCarter and co., for his invitation to a special Administrators Day at the Dallas Museum of Art, however, Woolery is concerned that there are only five of the Dallas I.S.D. areas being represented in the group of invitee and that within his letter he asks the area directors to ensure that all ten areas are included on that day by replacement or addition. Woolery ends the letter by stating that due to his schedule, it will not permit for his full attendance but he'll share lunch and some of the afternoon's agenda what he can. Copied on the letter is Bill Cormack.

Davis is happy to share with Wright a copy of a letter to the Getty Center for Education in the Arts for the North Texas Regional Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, "North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts" (NTIEVA), which has been funded. Davis writes that they will begin work immediately to get the steering committee organized and to get the first conference meeting going. Davis ends the letter saying that with Wright, he is confidence that can put together a successful proposal for an implementation grant.

Thanking Wiggins for her time working with NTIEVA, and meeting with Dr. Brooks-Ray and Howard Dunn to discuss interest in the program for staff development. The Institute and the district face uncertain economic conditions but McCarter and Cason believe if they could stretch their first year budget they could pay a team member (kindergarten and first grade teacher, art specialist and principal) a stipend of $50 a day to attend the three-week institute during the summer. However, since Dallas was not written into the original implementation grant they will have to review it with the Getty Center and cannot promise continued support past the year.

Woolery writes that the Dallas Public Schools will be unable to continue their participation with NTIEVA, due to budgeting and time constraints. Woolery finishes the letter by saying the fine arts staff have been positive about the impact the program has had on their schools, and hopes Davis and McCarter will continue to let them know of opportunities in the future regarding NTIEVA and the Getty Foundation. Included at the end of the letter is a stipend worksheet for the faculty involved with NTIEVA based on current salaries.

The second part of the letter is about their program, DBAE, the approach to art education by involve art specialists and classroom teachers in expanding art to include not only art production but critical thinking, judgement and other formalities.
