Delayed Antarctic melt season reduces albedo feedback

Article discusses how Antarctica's response to climate change varies greatly both spatially and temporally. The authors used a 43-year record of Antarctic snow melt seasons from space-borne microwave radiometers with a machine-learning algorithm to show that both the onset and the end of the melt season are being delayed.

Sibling Aggression, Feeding Rates, and Hatch Rank of Nestling Red-Shouldered Hawks (Buteo lineatus)

Article describes how, in many raptor species, hatching asynchrony results in a size hierarchy among nestlings, which may facilitate brood reduction by means of sibling aggression-induced mortality, especially in times of low food resources. The authors studied the influence of hatch rank, brood size, and brood age on aggression and feeding rates among Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) nestlings in suburban southwestern Ohio.

Light-Controlled Cell–Cell Assembly Using Photocaged Oligonucleotides (open access)

Light-Controlled Cell–Cell Assembly Using Photocaged Oligonucleotides

Article asserts that while techniques that allow one to control the arrangement of cells and direct contact between different cell types have been developed that expand upon simple co-culture methods, specific control over heterojunctions that form between cells is not easily accomplished with current methods, such as 3D cell-printing. In this article, DNA-mediated cell interactions are combined with cell-compatible photolithographic approaches to control cell assembly.

Temporal complexity measure of reaction time series: Operational versus event time

Article describes how detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) is a well-established method to evaluate scaling indices of time series, which categorize the dynamics of complex systems. The authors propose treating each reaction time as a duration time that changes the representation from operational (trial number) time n to event (temporal) time t, or X(t).
