Douglas United Nuclear monthly report, March 1971

Two designs of thin annulus neptunium target elements, fabricated to produce medical grade Pu-238 in the Hanford production reactors and to be problem-free in separations and waste disposal operations, had successful in-reactor performances. Results of the BNW separations are not yet available. Examination of five N Reactor ball channels revealed no graphite breakage. The separations which were evident in only two channels were not great enough to result in ball losses after a ball drop. KE Reactor deactivation activities to affect a standby condition continued. N Reactor deactivation activities have been limited to criteria and procedure development and the scoping of necessary capital work. No irreversible physical changes have been made.
