Bibliography of ORNL-BSF Reports Pertinent to Swimming Pool Type Reactor Design (Revised) (open access)

Bibliography of ORNL-BSF Reports Pertinent to Swimming Pool Type Reactor Design (Revised)

Much of the shielding work carried out with the Bulk Shielding Reactor (BSR) has yielded data of particular interest for the design of swimming pool type reactors, However, it is often difficult for a reactor designer to locate such data since it may be recorded in a report primarily concerned with shielding problems. Therefore, this memorandum presents a bibliography of reports from the Bulk Shielding Facility arranged according to the application of data to the various aspects of reactor design.

Status Report on the Hanford Developed Tester for the Coextruded Fuel Elements (open access)

Status Report on the Hanford Developed Tester for the Coextruded Fuel Elements

In October 1959, a combination testing station developed at HAPO was reported to the Sheath committee. This testing station consisted of electronic instrumentation and mechanical scanning equipment to check coextruded fuel elements (rod and tube) for clad thickness, clad integrity, bond, and core integrity. The clad tests are performed by eddy current methods and the other are ultrasonic.

Multi-Region Simulation of Xenon Poisoning in the PRTR

A previous study has been completed on the buildup and decay of xenon poisoning in the PRTR by simulating the reactor as a single region. The results of this study indicated that a study using a more refined model of the reactor would be valuable.

Thermal Annealing of Neutron Induced Discomposition in Artificial Graphite : [Part] III, Heating-During-Irradiation Experiments (open access)

Thermal Annealing of Neutron Induced Discomposition in Artificial Graphite : [Part] III, Heating-During-Irradiation Experiments

Experiments are described in which the pile-induced changes in electrical resistivity and elastic modulus of graphite were investigated as functions of the sample temperature during bombardment and the amount of bombardment. The data are for relatively low bombardment times (up to ca. 20 L-units) and temperatures (up to 340*C) and are not sufficiently extensive to permit unequivocal conclusions.

Formation Constants of the Complex Species Formed by Interaction of Rare-Earth Nitrilotriacetate Complexes with an Equivalent Amount of Base (open access)

Formation Constants of the Complex Species Formed by Interaction of Rare-Earth Nitrilotriacetate Complexes with an Equivalent Amount of Base

From abstract: "The formation constants of the RChOH- species, formed by interaction of individual rare-earth nitrilotriacetate species and KOH at 25°C and an ionic strength of 0.1, have been determined by the potentiometric method, i.e., computed from the pH values of equilibrium mixtures containing varying proportions of rare-earth complex and base. The relationship of these constants to the ion-exchange separation of rare earths at high pH has been discussed."

Measurement of the neutron-induced fission cross section of /sup 232/Th relative to /sup 235/U from 0. 7 to 30 MeV. [0. 7 to 30 MeV] (open access)

Measurement of the neutron-induced fission cross section of /sup 232/Th relative to /sup 235/U from 0. 7 to 30 MeV. [0. 7 to 30 MeV]

Continuing fission cross section ratio studies at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, one has measured the /sup 232/Th//sup 235/U fission cross-section ratio from 0.7 to 30 MeV. Using the threshold method, one obtained a value of 0.1081 +- 0.0022 for the average cross-section ratio in the interval from 1.75 to 4.00 MeV.

DOE Advanced Controls R&D Planning Workshop, June 11, 2003, Washington DC: Workshop Results (open access)

DOE Advanced Controls R&D Planning Workshop, June 11, 2003, Washington DC: Workshop Results

On June 11, 2003, representatives from universities, federal and state government agencies, Department of Energy national laboratories, and the private sector attended a one-day workshop in Washington, DC. The objective of the workshop was to review and provide input into DOE's assessment of the market for advanced sensors and controls technology and potential R&D pathways to enhance their success in the buildings market place. The workshop consisted of two sessions. During the morning session, participants were given an overview on the following topics: market assessment, current applications and strategies for new applications, sensors and controls, networking, security, and protocols and standards, and automated diagnostics, performance measurement, commissioning and optimal control and tools. In the sessions, workshop participants were asked to review the potential R&D pathways, identify high priority activities, and outline a five year path for each of these activities. Priorities were as follows: largest and quickest impact; best use of finite resources; greatest likelihood for market penetration; and ability to replicate results. The participants identified several promising R&D opportunities.
