Car Brake.

Patent for a new and improved car-brake. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the transverse beam of the truck, of the levers pivoted to the under side of the same, the brake-shoes, the pitmen connecting the brake-shoes with the levers, the straps secured to the beam, the retaining-rods having their ends pivoted to the pitmen and the straps, and devices for operating the levers" (lines 94-101).

The machine consists of two movable members, "one of which carries all of the male and the other all of the female dies, said members being so related that when moved relatively to each other in one direction all the male dies move as a single member...and enter the female dies, and when moved in the opposite direction all of said male dies are withdrawn" (lines 12-20).
