Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Though 16 1/2 feet below its ultimate level, Lake Hefner already holds a 600-day supply of water for Oklahoma City, figured on a daily consumption of 15 milion gallons and accounting for escape and evaporation. The lake now covers 1,400 acres of land and contains 40,000 acre feet of water. When full, this autumn or next spring, it will cover 2,500 acres and contain 75,000 acre feet of water, with the waves lapping at the dam only seven feet below the top of the dam roadway. When it is completely filled will depend largely on the completion of the new boat harbor, construction of which will begin within the next few weeks. "Holes for the pilings for the harbor must be drilled in shale and set in concrete," said M. B. Cunningham, water department superintendent. "This could not be done if the lake were filled first. Also, we think it would not be a good idea to put too much water until the facilities are ready to take it out."
