Patent for a new and improved blind fastening. This design "relates to an improvement in fastenings for outside blinds, shutters, or the like, and the purpose of [the] device is to provide a fastening that cannot be unlocked from the outside, even though slats be cut from the blinds or shutters to which the fastening is applied and two hands or arms are thrust through within reach of the said fastening. [The] fastening has two catching-latches, one locking and holding latch, and one bolt, all to be operated simultaneously when the blind is closed against the sill, [so] said blind may be released" (lines 12-24).

Patent for a new and improved cotton-seed cleaner. This design "is to be used in connection with a machine for removing short lint from cotton-seed . . . The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved cotton-seed cleaner, which is simple and durable in construction and very effectively removes all impurities from the shell of the seed. . . . The invention consists of a revolving horizontal disk-brush and of a fixed table provided with emery-slabs and perforated plates and in contact with the brush" (lines 8-21).

Patent for improvements for vaporizers "of simple and highly efficient means for thoroughly and effectively superheating the vapor of water and oil" (lines 13-15).

Patent for a new and improved trace carrier. This design "consists in a frame having an oblong slot . . . for the passage of the back-band, and which has the trace-hook formed as a portion of it, in combination with a pivoted triangular-shaped bar or bars, which are loosely connected to the frame, and which close in the oblong opening . . . to clamp or hold the back-band . . . to provide a buckle and back-band hook which can be attached to either a cloth or leather back-band by frictional contact . . . prevent[ing] the necessity of . . . forming tongues upon the buckles" (lines 14-30).

Patent for improvements in fastenings for bows of watch-cases.

Patent for a machine for planing lumber with "a very smooth surface, avoiding the undulating marks upon the lumber and holes caused by the occasional lifting or breaking out of incurved portions of the lumber, as caused on surfaces planed by rotary cutters" (lines 22-27).

Patent for an improvement in the vertical wheel of windmills including illustrations.

Patent for a new and improved peach pitter. This design "consist[s], essentially, of the main frame having the part rising from its base, the yielding holding-blades having their upper edges beveled and formed as cutters and overlapping at their side edges . . . the plunger having its lower end recessed and provided with an annular cutting-edge, the crescent-shaped cutting blades secured to said plunger above its cutting point, from their convex edges forming cutters, the operating-lever, and pitman connecting the same with the upper end of the plunger" (lines 24-36).

Patent for an improved fish-trap consisting of a net drawn in the rear of two boats with illustrations.

Patent for a new and improved method of making mattresses. This invention "consists in first disintegrating the material and simultaneously forcing the same into a suitable receptacle, fanning said material as it passes into the receptacle, and finally compressing the same . . . thereby dispensing with tacking of the bat" (lines 15-22).

Patent for a new and improved mobile bookcase. This design is "composed of a base-piece having a longitudinally-central raised table-piece adapted to support the leaves of the book, and a depressed-ledge portion outside thereof adapted to support the cover of the book" (lines 20-25).

Patent for a new and improved car-brake. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the transverse beam of the truck, of the levers pivoted to the under side of the same, the brake-shoes, the pitmen connecting the brake-shoes with the levers, the straps secured to the beam, the retaining-rods having their ends pivoted to the pitmen and the straps, and devices for operating the levers" (lines 94-101).

Patent for a new and improved latch and lock. This design consists "[i]n a lock, the combination, with the bushing extending through and rigidly secured to the door and having a screw-thread on its inner end, of the lock-case having the circular screw-threaded aperture into which the threaded end of the bushing is screwed, the spring-actuated bolt and knob-spindle connected therewith, and the outer plate having the notch engaging with the lug on the case, and the downwardly projecting side-pieces [and] provided with screw-holes" (lines 75-85).

Patent for "an improvement in tramper attachments for cotton-presses, and has for its object to provide a tramper of simple, durable, and economical construction, which may be readily applied to any press, and which is designed to be operated by steam" (lines 8-14).

Patent "to provide simple means whereby the dimensions of the packing-box, as well as the spout, may be readily increased or diminished, either vertically or laterally, to enable the operator to stuff mattresses of varying sizes, whereby the dimensions of the packing-box and spout shall be at all times varied in the same relative proportions" (lines 12-20).

Patent for a new and improved plow. This design consists in "the combination of the center bar, the adjustable sweep, and the saddle . . . [the] longitudinal center bar extending below the base of the sweep and having the pointed nose and the fan-shaped lip" (lines 85-90).

Patent for a new and improved switch stand for dynamo stations. This design "is to provide a simple and efficient switch for introducing dynamos into an electric circuit and removing them therefrom . . . [The] invention consists in . . . outside circuit-wires . . . switch contacts arranged in pairs, there being as many pairs of such contacts as there are dynamos belonging to the circuit. It also consists[,] . . . with the pairs of contacts, of corresponding pairs of swinging arms, the arms of each pair being insulated from each other and adapted to engage the contacts of the outside circuit" (lines 14-27).

Patent for a new and improved wire tightener. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the bar having a longitudinal slot, with knife-edge and forked twisting-hooks, and the offsetting lever-handle having flat portion, with notch or wire-seat fulcrumed in the slot of the bar and having its outer end extended in the form of a prong between the twisting-hooks . . . to form a discharging device for the wire" (lines 64-72).

Patent for a new and improved sash fastener. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a window-sash, of the spiral spring, its inner end resting in the socket, its other in the thimble, locking-plate having the hinge-nib working in the perforation, and [the] thimble receiving and covering the outer end of said spring, and handle, said lock-plate and handle fitting and working in [the] groove and [other] perforation, [a] cover-plate countersunk in the face of said sash, covering said lock-plate, and provided with the perforation and opening" (lines 1-11).

Patent for a new and improved copier. This design consists in "the combination of the dampening-roller . . . with the smoothing-roller at one side of and in close proximity to it and situated between said dampening-roller and the roll of paper, and the roller journaled in the standard, and the smoothing-rollers placed at one side and beyond the rollers . . . and journaled in brackets . . . whereby the paper is evenly and smoothly moistened before the copy-paper is applied and both are kept smooth during the process of copying" (lines 90-104).

Patent for a new and improved fire-clay heater. This design "consists in an improved fire-log burner for oil or other fluid or gaseous inflammable substances, said burner being in form of a tube or hollow cylinder, and made of 'fire-clay,' and provided with numerous jet or burner passages in its periphery, and filled with comminuted asbestus or other analogous absorbent or capillary fluid-conducting fire-proof material . . . The object of [the] invention is to provide a practically-operating and fire-proof fire-log for heating steam-boilers, stoves, grates, fire-places, and for other analogous uses" (lines 17-30).

Patent for a new and improved fluid-burner fire-log. This design consists "in combination, a perforated tubular body, metallic removable heads, a fluid-supplying tube, a perforated air-induction distributing tie-tube provided with screw threads and nuts on its ends outside the heads, and a comminuted or disintegrated fire-proof filling surrounding the perforated portion of the air-tube and occupying the chamber of the body" (lines 25-32).
