Patent for a new and improved combined caster and insect guard for furniture. This design consists "[i]n a combined caster and insect guard, the combination, with a suitable spindle, of a segmented cup or vessel having a central upwardly-extending bearing for such spindle, and provided on its under side with a recess the edges of which are provided with bearings for a wheel or caster" (lines 95-101).

Patent for a new and improved multi-tool. This design "consists of a tool having a staple-holder, a driver, a chisel, a vise attachment, and a detachable driver adapted to be used with the vise to splice the ends of the wire in building wire fences, in which the tool is used for driving staples, cutting the wire, and splicing the wire, the several devices forming a combination-tool disposed for convenient use upon a stock or holder" (lines 9-17).

Patent for combined land roller and plow. This tool is meant to be used to prepare the ground for planting. The illustrations have the labeled components and the text describes their uses.

Patent for a new and improved combined chimney and ventilator. This design consists "[i]n a combined ventilator and smoke-flue, a series of pipes or flues having a sectional inclosing casing extending from the ceiling of a room and adapted to receive a stove-pipe, the lower drum or casing being provided with a series of openings, and having an annular flange, the top casing being located without the building, having its lower end within the space between the roof and ceiling, and braces, said upper casing having a downwardly-extending flange at its lower end" (lines 18-28).

Patent for a new and improved churn. This design "relates to improvements in rotary churns; and it consists in the combination of the dasher-staff made screw-threaded at its upper end, and having a dasher secured to its lower one; a pinion which is applied to the screw-threaded part of the shaft, and which has a rising and falling movement thereon; the driving-wheel which operates the two pinions, and through them the two dashers, and the sleeve, which is connected to the lower pinion and one of the dashers" (lines 13-23).

Patent for a new and improved bustle. This design "consist[s] of a single piece of wire bent in spiral form, said bustle being larger in diameter at its center than at its ends, and eyes or loops formed in said ends, in combination with a spiral spring located within said bustle, the ends of said spring being formed with eyes or loops, and cords or tapes secured to the eyes of the bustle and spring" (lines 52-59).

Patent for a new and improved bale tie. This design "consists of a buckle or tie consisting of a base-plate having one or more projections or hooks on its face, to one of which is permanently secured one end of the wire or band, while the other end is passed around the bale and secured to the opposite hook or projection" (lines 21-27).

Patent for a new and improved feeder and band cutter for thrashers. This design consists "[i]n a band-cutter for a thrasher, the combination with the main frame, main shaft, platforms, and mechanism adapted and arranged to cut the bands, of the crank, rod, oscillating shaft provided with the crank arms . . . reciprocating rod, and depending rod" (lines 38-44).

Patent for a new and improved churn power. This design "relates to improvements in churn powers; and it consists of a plunger-shaft so connected to a wheel by means of a loose rod as to alternately raise or lower said shaft as the wheel rotates. The object of the invention is to accomplish the up-and-down motion and consequent agitation without the usual amount of labor" (lines 9-16).

Patent for a new and improved water-cup for stove pipes. This design "relates to water cups or vessels arranged on the outside of stove-pipes, and whereby the heat of the pipe of the stove is made to evaporate the water for the purpose of imparting moisture to the air of the apartment containing the stove and so improving the healthiness and pleasantness of the atmosphere of the room" (lines 8-15).

Patent for a new and improved ventilating chimney. This design consists in "the combination, with the smoke-flue, of the ventilating-flue, the thimble provided with outwardly-projecting lugs and inwardly-projecting apertured lugs, the plate provided with a central aperture and with a flange having notches, and the screws passed through the plate into the apertured lugs" (lines 16-23).

Patent for an explosive projectile for use of penetrating and exploding ironclad and steel-clad ships, including instructions and illustrations.

Patent for a new and improved meat chopper. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the frame having horizontal slots, a sash having interchangeable cutting and tenderizing blades, devices for operating the sash, and wires or rods adjustable in said slots to accommodate either blade . . . [and] [t]he combination of [a] shaft with spur-wheels, pinion, crank-shaft, pitman, sash, removable blade, shaft, carrying spur-wheel, and pinions, and [a] meat-board or table with racks" (lines 91-101).

Patent for a new and improved surveyor's instrument. This design consists in "[t]he instrument for surveying and analogous purposes, consisting of protractor, right-angled piece, and [additional] piece, the two latter pivoted to move independently on the protractor" (lines 9-13).

Patent for a new and improved oil tank. This design "relates to improvements in oil-tanks, and has for its object to prevent the waste of oil when emptying the can or vessel in which it is received from the factory, and to avoid the odor arising from the oil, and also to prevent evaporation after the oil has been introduced into the tank" (lines 9-15).

Patent for a new and improved hame fastener. This design is "to provide a clasp or holder the parts of which are simple in construction; and [the] invention consists in the construction and combination of the parts" (lines 17-20).

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a gate, one of the rails whereof is about thrice as thick as the remainder of said rails, and is provided with a central groove along its upper face, of three supporting-posts, each having a recess furnished with a roller in its lower part, upon which the aforesaid rail may travel, a tongue projecting from the upper edge of said recess into the groove of said rail, and an upright attached to the central post, so as to form a guide retaining the gate in an erect position" (lines 47-57).

Patent for a new and improved feeder for cotton presses. This design is "constructed with a receiving-box and a feed-box separated by a sliding plate attached to a follower secured to the piston-rod of a steam-cylinder, to adapt the said feeder to be interposed between a cotton-gin and a baling-press. The inlet and outlet valves of the steam-cylinder are connected by two pairs of connecting-rods with two levers, so that the movements of the piston can be readily controlled" (lines 19-28).
