The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) has begun a multi-year assessment of the extent to which students in Connecticut display the knowledge and traits described in the Common Core of Learning (CCL). Science and mathematics were the two chosen subjects to be assessed under CCL.

The letter is in regards to their previous correspondence as North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts has sought grant support from the foundation. Beech writes that the Trustees did go over the proposal and has once again declined to commit.

A newspaper clipping, published by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, features an article with the headline, "Area art awakening becomes elementary," by Yamil Berard. Educators say the art and humanities exposure will enrich the academic experience and help students become more articulate. Elementary schools across the metroplex have been selected to share in a five-year, $15 million grant for intensive art programs. As part of the grant the metroplex schools will be teamed with an art professor from the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts at the University of North Texas. Berry's article questions why it is important for school children to learn work of art from the museum environment and explores the nature of art museums / school collaborations to shed light on the questions.

Broadus has given Sears lesson plans from Kay Alexander's Learning to Look and Create: The SPECTRA Series. Broadus writes that the art curriculum offers numerous ideas for correlating activities with concepts and addresses interdisciplinary curriculum ideas, highlighting some important introductory lesson plans that Broadus believes will be useful for Sears.
