Carswell advises Shih that The First Baptist Church in Abilene is to receive from its members a gift offering for hungry China noting that a brief statement from Shih, dealing with the conditions in his country, would be genuinely helpful in the presentation of the appeal.

Carswell acknowledges his receipt of the official notice relative to room reservations for the 1942-43 session and advises that he will not make a deposit now ascribing their no-refund rule under such conditions as out of place.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from R. M. Cavness, President, San Marcos Academy, San Marcos, Texas, dated March 7, 1942. Cavness advises of having no course to teach the effects of alcohol due to their institution is at high school level but chapel programs are devoted to the evil effects of alcohol.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Jeff Davis, Executive Secretary, United Texas Drys, dated March 5, 1942. Davis suggests using a pledge card such as the enclosed one when presenting the matter to pastors and advises of more churches participating than there are special speakers available for every church noting that in Houston, the past year, the pastor of the church usually spoke and took an offering at the close of the service.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Jeff Davis, Executive Secretary, United Texas Drys, dated March 17, 1942. Davis inquires of Carswell, "how goes the battle," and advises that he has plans, but he wants to hear from Carswell before doing anything and describes the program plans for Dallas. He advises Carswell, confidentially, that they have a plan to try to get on the July Primary ballot on a "war time proposition" noting if they can do that they "will be ready for big things".

Davis acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell and confirms the plan to be at their regular meeting. He advises of more than 50 churches having committed to field days estimating they will get one hundred.

The letter is a form letter, and makes request for answers regarding the inquiry from T. N. Carswell on whether or not courses on the effects of alcohol are offered. At the bottom is a handwritten reply to Dean Mangun from Annie Mae Melton confirms assignments on the effects of alcohol within courses.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Mrs. Ora Parker, Roscoe, Texas, dated March 19, 1942. Parker requests a suggestion from Carswell or help in locating employment, some kind of war work. A notation by Carswell at the top of page dated April 18, 1942 advises that he suggested the USO at Sweetwater.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Law Sone, President, Texas Wesleyan College, Fort Worth, Texas, dated March 10, 1942. Sone advises that Wesleyan College has no specific course listed as The Effects of the Use of Alcohol.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Thos. H. Taylor, President, Howard Payne College, Brownwood, Texas, dated March 6, 1942. Taylor advises that they have no practical study on the effects of alcohol but approach the problem through classes in science, physical education and health.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Thomas J. Treadaway, S. M., Dean-Registrar, St. Mary's University of San Antonio, Texas, dated March 9, 1942. Treadaway advises of no course on the effects of alcohol but that temperance, as one of the four cardinal virtues, is taught in all of their Religion classes.
