Patent for a new and improved combined cotton seed and corn planter. This design is especially "for seeding cotton; but the machine is converted into a corn-planter by detaching the bottom of the hopper, removing the space-block, disconnecting the pitman, and then removing the slide, and substituting in lieu thereof a device composed of a bottom, having a seed-opening, and a bridge-form metallic striker, arranged across the same, and a dropper-slide, having dropper holes" (lines 95-2).

Machine for Cutting Basket Splints.

Patent for a new machine for cutting basket splints. This design is for a large ring with grooves of varying depths to receive pieces of timber, whereupon a horse pulls a knife-tipped sweep along the perimeter of the ring, gradually turning the timber into splints for baskets. The machine can be conveniently disassembled and stored when not in use, and it is simple and easy enough for a unskilled laborer to assemble.

Patent for a new and improved nut lock. This design calls for a grooved nut and bolt to hold a pin between the two while the bolt is screwed onto the nut. Depending on whether or not the pin is in said grooves, the nut may or may not be removed from the bolt, which increases the worker's control over the nut and bolt and prevents unintended loosening.

Patent for new and improved saddle bags. This design calls for a saddle with two metal boxes with hinged doors at the bottom, through which metal pouches, to contain the mail, are inserted.
