The water is expected to raise tje lake level three feet. A 30-day supply of water is predicted from this release order by the corps of engineers."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "As the governor of Wyoming said: "You must be getting pretty tired of people literally crashing into your home." The governor, Millwood L. Simpson, was writing to Amos H. Switzer, Kay county farmer living at the south end of the Kansas turnpike. In fact the four-lane super-highway ends in Switzer's oat field. Gov. Simpson's letter was to thank the Switzers for their kindness, hospitality and first aid and first aid last October, when the governor's car was the first to rush madly off the end of the turnpike into the oat field...Switzer has written the governor of Kansas and the Kansas turnpike authority seeking help. He has also written Gov. gary and the Oklahoma state highway commission seeking help. It is a tossup as to who is maddest at the moment, Oklahoma or Kansas. Kansas seems to have the edge. "Those cars, the majority of them from states other than Oklahoma and Kansas, kept knocking down the fence at the end of the turnpike," Switzer said..."I had some cattle and every time the fence got knocked down they got loose. When they got loose they would got on the …

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Though 16 1/2 feet below its ultimate level, Lake Hefner already holds a 600-day supply of water for Oklahoma City, figured on a daily consumption of 15 milion gallons and accounting for escape and evaporation. The lake now covers 1,400 acres of land and contains 40,000 acre feet of water. When full, this autumn or next spring, it will cover 2,500 acres and contain 75,000 acre feet of water, with the waves lapping at the dam only seven feet below the top of the dam roadway. When it is completely filled will depend largely on the completion of the new boat harbor, construction of which will begin within the next few weeks. "Holes for the pilings for the harbor must be drilled in shale and set in concrete," said M. B. Cunningham, water department superintendent. "This could not be done if the lake were filled first. Also, we think it would not be a good idea to put too much water until the facilities are ready to take it out."

This vehicle apparently was driven too far onto the shoulder and "ditched" west of Sooner Road."
