The ODH analysis presented here covers the high bay and assembly hall docking area of the for the D-Zero detector. It includes the STand Alone helium Refrigerator (STAR) in the building. It also includes the D-Zero detector and it's associated cryogenic and gas systems. An ODH analysis is presented which shows that the D-Zero assembly building high bay including the detector docking area is ODH class O. Probabilities, leak rates, and fatality factors are generated for all items that are sources of inert gas. The scope of analysis included the calorimeter and gas components on the detector, the helium refrigerator/liquifier components, and the future solenoid and visible light photon counter cryogenics that will be added to the D-Zero detector. The analysis demonstrates that the calorimeter and helium refrigerator systems pose no ODH hazard to personnel.

A letter from Elliot Eisner, Professor of Education and Art, Sandford University, to R. William McCarter, Co-director, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, about clearing up McCarter's confusion about Eisner's development of curriculum units. McCarter had earlier sent a letter expressing their surprisement of Eisner not focusing their attention of the analysis of curriculum units. Eisner states that they are enclosing three documents, letter of November 19, letter of January 27, and a agenda that Eisner prepared with their letter of January 27 as proof that they explicitly said they would be developing curriculum units instead of analyzing curriculum units. Eisner goes on to state that if McCarter had any reservations about the line of work, they could've written to Eisner.

This Technical Progress Report summarizes activities conducted over the period 8/16/96-2/15/97 as part of this project. This investigation responds to the possibility that restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions may be imposed in the future to comply with the Framework Convention on Climate Change. The primary objective of the investigation is to obtain experimental data that can be applied to assess the technical feasibility and environmental impacts of oceanic containment strategies to limit release of carbon dioxide (CO{sub 2}) from coal and other fossil fuel combustion systems into the atmosphere. Critical technical uncertainties of ocean disposal of CO{sub 2} will be addressed by performing experiments that: (1) characterize size spectra and velocities of a dispersed CO{sub 2} phase in the near-field of a discharge jet; and (2) estimate rates of mass transfer from dissolving droplets of liquid CO{sub 2} encased in a thin hydrate shell. Experiments will be conducted in a laboratory facility that can reproduce conditions in the ocean to depths of 600 m (1,969 ft). Between 8/16/96 and 2/15/97, activities focused on modifications to the experimental apparatus and the testing of diagnostics. In various pulsed-laser medical applications, strong stress transients can be generated in advance of vapor bubble formation. To better understand the evolution of stress transients and subsequent formation of vapor bubbles, two-dimensional simulations are presented in channel or cylindrical geometry with the LATIS (LAser TISsue) computer code. Differences with one-dimensional modeling are explored, and simulated experimental conditions for vapor bubble generation are presented and compared with data. 22 refs., 8 figs.
