Personal recollections of the Naga Kuki Conflict by Dilbung Bembem
Recording of Dilbung Bembem recorded in Imphal recollecting her time during the conflict. The story of the attack and burning down of her village Paraolon, the killing of her brother Dilbung Angpheng, and Simon and his father Darshel, Sankhil Kochai, and injuring her father Dilbung Rengtarnon by the Kuki. They buried the death family members at Challong and they escaped to Chandel as they were displaced due to the conflict.

The speaker narrates about the preparation for community fishing. In order to go fishing, some twenty or thirty people go to identify the spot. Based on everyone’s opinion, they decided on a place to do the fishing. A day before fishing, some members also go deep to the forest to collect katu, the herb used for fishing. Each member contributes their labor even before the real fishing begins.

This a traditional story about two twin girls (hingchong musoso) that are born to the human wife of a king, who also has a second wife who is a witch. The witch is jealous and abandons the girls, who are subsequently brought up by tigers. After having grown up, they return to their father’s kingdom and tell their story. The father learns the truth, the witch dies, and the reunited family lives happily ever after.
