A three-alarm fire roared through the Leonhardt Lumber Co., 100 SE 29, late Tuesday night. Fire officials said damage would run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The flames, shooting 100 feet into the air, quickly consumed the largest part of the huge lumber complex that covers almost a city block. Firemen were unable to slow the blaze until it had reached outside the walls of the office and main lumber sheds. the blaze destroyed the main lumber company office and main lumber sheds. Lumber stacked outside on the south part of the company lot escaped the flames."
