Report concerning the protection offered against radioactive fallout offered by two types of structures at the Nevada Test Site. Differences between above ground and underground structures are measured and compared to data taken from actual fallout conditions.

Introduction: The U.S. Geological Survey is appraising the possibility, however slight, that the ground water beneath the Nevada Test Site, possibly contaminated by nuclear detonations, may carry radioactive fission products to places where they may constitute a public hazard.

From summary: Site investigations were conducted at two locations, the sites of the DUGOUT and CHARLIE events, at the Nevada Test Site for the purpose of evaluating the dynamic in situ technique as a means of determining the boundaries of craters produced by explosive detonations.

Geological Survey investigations in the Ul2e.05 tunnel at the Atomic Energy Commission's Nevada Test Site, Nye County, Nevada (fig. 1). Reports on electrical resistivity, natural radioactivity, and heat required to raise the rocks to 100C will be issued later. A preliminary report on the geologic effects of the Blanca event is being prepared.
