Interview with James William "Bill" Harrison, a serviceman in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He explains how he joined the navy in San Diego without going to boot camp. He worked on an oil tanker that shipped out to Pearl Harbor a month after the attack there and transported fuel out of San Diego to various ships at sea. He was then transfered to Admiral Nimitz's public relations department. There he and two others wrote stories about the action in the Pacific theater, particularly about the Battle of Midway. They also contributed to a radio show and worked with the national press corps. He then worked at the Naval Air Station in Seattle before traveling to Hilo, Hawaii to meet with soldiers who had returned from Tarawa. In Texas, he attended officer training school and college at Southwestern University. After the war ended, he studied at the University of Texas and University of Oklahoma for law school. He recalls an incident in which his office released a story about a cat that had kittens on board a cruiser; they reported this good news from the Pacific prior to the Battle of Midway. Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge is proposing to acquire a 706-acre property located in Stevens County, Washington. The new acquisition would be called the Kaniksu Unit. A habitat evaluation was conducted on the property using the Habitat Evaluation Procedures (HEP) methodology (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 1980). Evaluation species were black-capped chickadee, mallard, ruffed grouse and white-tailed deer. Life requisites evaluated were food and reproduction for black-capped chickadee, food, cover, and reproduction for mallard, available winter browse for white-tailed deer and fall-to-spring cover for ruffed grouse.

Letter from Alfred "Ben" Dreher to Bonnie Fieldsend discussing his friendship with Bonnie's father, Geroge Brundrett while in the U.S. Army Air Corps and as a Prisoner of War during World War II in the South Pacific. George died while a P.O.W. in July 1945.

Letter from Thelma Rice to Mary H. Langford stating that she received Langford's letter about the appropriateness of The Links, Inc. holding an expensive gala during a time of economic hardship. Although she understands Langford's concerns, the gala is a tradition for which planning began several years ago. She is not sure whether plans for the gala can be altered at this point but will make sure her concerns are discussed with the national director.

Introduction: This report summarizes the results of the study and presents technical information on the water resources of the basin for hydrologists, engineers, planners, and water managers who need this knowledge to guide their endeavors. A brief lay-reader report describing this study is also in preparation for those who may be interested in the general findings and highlights of the investigation without the detail and data compilations contained in this report.
