Caption: "While Oklahoma City civic leaders lick their wounds after being defeated by Classen highschoolers in a battle over naming of the city's new multi-million-dollar highschool, workers are coming right along with the sprawling construction. Bill Tankersley, conducting the job for Builders Construction Co., said the project will be ready before school opens next September. The Classen students in one of the fanciest highschools in the country. Brick work is to start within the next week on the gymnasium. Steel structural work has been completedon on this unit of the plant for several months. Most nearly complete unit is the shops buildings, which Tankersley reports is 85 percent complete. Brick work on this portion of the project is 95 percent done, leaving only some interior and finishing jobs to be done........The new Classen is taking shape after years of planning, studying of other top-notch schools all over the country, and just plain dreaming by city school officials. it will cost and ultimate $4 1/2 millions. Caption: "City crews Thursday painted arrows in two traffic lanes at NW 10 and Virginia in a last-minute job before a new traffic technique started working at the corner. Under the system, cars will be permitted to make left turns two abreast to help clear the rush-hour traffic tieup. Cars on the inside lanes must turn to thier left. Cars in the next lane may go straigh ahead or turn left. Traffic experts call it the "simultaneous turn system." The coiuncil authorized the technique in a recent city law. Caption: "A three-alarm fire, set off by a lacquer explosion, raged through Bolton's Hardware store, NE 10 and Walnut, Monday afternoon and caused damage estimated at $70,000. Some fire equipment was called away from the hardware store fire use in battling a blaze caused $7,500 damage at the educational building of Northeast Christian church, 2801 N Missouri. One fireman, W. D. Morton, suffered a back injury when he was knocked down eight steps while battling the hardwae store fire. Dr. T. C. Points, fire department physician, said six or seven firemen were temporarily overcome by smoke, but returned to fight the blaze. A number of firemen became ill from the heavy smoke that billowed out the front and top of the two-story, brick building. The store covers about a half block and advertises itself as the "goshawfullest store." In includes all types of hardware items."
