It was founded in 1848, and is one of the oldest educational institutions for girls in the country. There are four massive buildings, surrounded by about four acres of beautiful land, located on an elevation of 1,450 feet above the sea level, and midway between the picturesque James and Shenandoah Rivers." It is provided with an extended, covered shed so as to protect very long trains, and the total length of the station, including the platform, is 650 feet."
