[Postcard of Great Falls of the Potomac from the River's Edge]

Postcard of the river split by a large rock formation, reuniting after the short fall. The back describes the picture as follows - "Great Falls, on the G. F. & Old Dominion Ry., 14 miles above Georgetown, the largest south of Niagara, are great by nature and of historical interest. Here Washington built a flour mill and foundry, now in ruins; and around it a canal, still intact, though overgrown with large trees. Rushing through channels of solid rock to boil amid boulders, terrific in their jagged roughness, the Potomac plunges in rapids, cascades and spray to the awe-inspiring gorge below, whose Titanic walls of granite picture Nature's mightiest mood."
