She also discusses the town's Mexican-Anglo relations and cattle ranching culture.

Bates including personal experiences about the Pacific Theater during World War II, youth and education, the Navy Aviation Cadet Program, flight training, leaving naval aviation and attending Midshipman's School, being assigned to APc-21, operations off the coast of New Guinea with the VII Amphibious Force, providing escort duty for LCTs during assaults along the coast of New Guinea, the sinking of APc-21 by Japanese planes off New Britain Island, recuperating in New Guinea, returning to the States and being assigned to ATR-22, transferring to fleet tug ARA-182 as commanding officer, having convoy duty in the South Pacific, riding out a typhoon, disposing of Navy equipment after the war, and returning to the States.

Heldenfels discusses the origins of the Heldenfels Brothers dredging company, his education, the company's operations and organization, conservationists, federal regulation of shell dredging, his customers, barges, shell dredging practice, the local economy, finances, and property developments.

Interview with H. F. Elliot, a doctor in Aransas County from Ames, Iowa. Elliot discusses his education, the most common illnesses he treats, common diseases in the county, the patients he sees, the capabilities of different hospitals he refers them to, quarantine, hurricanes, the school system, local sports, and his involvement in the Boy Scouts.

Interview with Simon Michael, an artist from Rockport, Texas. Michael discusses his initial interest in fine art and painting, travels, service in World War Two, work as a portrait artist in Austin, his establishment of the Fulton School of Arts, the school's reception, its growth, local artists, local architecture, the subjects he teaches, and his students.

Interview with Virginia Benson, a resident of Sinton, Texas. Benson describes life in Sinton in the 1910s and '20s and the area's growth and development over that time.

Interview with L. E. Casterline, a fisherman from Fulton, Texas. Casterline discusses his origins in the seafood business, the evolution of large fishing boats and how his company uses them, shrimping practice, differences between towns in the Aransas area, the seafood market, the Parks and Wildlife Department marine lab in Rockport, moving his business, and controversy around mud dredging among clam beds.

Interview with Sidney Freeborn, a resident of Fulton, Texas. Freeborn recounts his time growing up in Fulton in the late-19th century, building and owning homes in the area, working as an armed ranch hand near Carrizo Springs, developing a ranch in Orange Grove, the hurricane of 1942, policing Corpus Christi in the aftermath of the 1919 storm as a member of the Texas Cavalry, the Klan's presence in the area, the Texas Rangers, and Hurricane Celia. Mrs. Freeborn talks about her first husband, her careers in the Army and Navy, and how she arrived in Fulton.

Interview with Daniel Moore, a retired farmer, who shares his observations on the land speculation, settlement, and development in the Coastal Bend area of South Texas from 1909 to the 1920s. He also discusses the agrarian social life, Mexican-Anglo relations, the economy of the area, and mule raising.

Interview with James Ruhmann from Corpus Christi, Texas. Ruhmann discusses his family's business in Schulenberg, his time growing up in Kenedy, and his remembrances of Portland and Taft in the 1910s and '20s.

Interview with Ramon Ruiz, a civil servant of the Department of Education and advocate for Hispanic education from La Copita, Texas. Ruiz discusses his family history, growing up, school in Kingsville, local relations between Mexicans and white people, high school football, playing for North Texas State, becoming a coach for elementary school, joining the Job Corps, teaching inmates, working with school districts on desegregation in Texas, and work on various federal education programs in Washington with an emphasis on Hispanic communities and cooperation with Mexico. In appendix is a biography of Ruiz and his resumé.

Interview with Cmdr. Alex Vraciu, a Navy WWII veteran and Navy Cross recipient from East Chicago, Indiana. Vraciu discusses his family and educational background, naval flight training, Edward "Butch" O'Hare, the F6F Hellcat, various combat operations throughout the Pacific, his actions at the "Marianas Turkey Shoot," being awarded the Navy Cross and time stateside, and returning to combat. In appendix is an autobiographical sketch by Vraciu, including a picture of him and his Hellcat with visible victory markings on the fuselage.

Interview with Thomas Jenny, a Marine Corps and Air America pilot from Miami, Florida, who served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Jenny discusses his interest in aviation, entering the Naval Flight Training Program, flight training, joining the Marine Corps, assignment to Korea, working for Pan-Am, joining Air America, and flying a variety of aircraft and missions from Thailand and Laos.
