She mentions that her son is on leave in Richmond, Virginia, and expresses her pride in Lattimore's entrance into the army.

He mentions a friend who has gone AWOL, and who will lose his citizenship if he doesn't turn up in 2 days. He also details the war bonds he's taken out and how much money he's going to send home to put in the bank.
