He offers congratulations to Prather and Ed Drake for their "great victories in May".

A letter addressed to the members of the Taylor County Democratic Executive Committee, from C. G. Whitten, Chairman, Taylor County Democratic Executive Committee, Abilene, Texas, dated August 17, 1956. A reminder that the second primary election will be held on August 25, 1956 advising of location and date to obtain election kits and supplies. Whitten calls a committee meeting for the opening and canvassing of the returns and advises of their poor financial situation and its effects on the paid help for the elections.

A letter written to Martin Dies, Lufkin, Texas, from Neville G. Penrose, Fort Worth 2, Texas, dated August 22, 1956. Penrose advises that he read the morning paper's announcment of Die's intention to run for the United States Senate when Price Daniel is elected Governor. He reminds Dies that he has just been elected to the House of Representatives for another two years and urges him to serve his term and throw all of his support to Morrow.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wright Morrow, Houston, Texas, dated September 6, 1956. Morrow acknowledges his receipt of the copy of Carswell's letter of September 1st that he wrote to Congressman Martin Dies describing it as a fine letter and expressing his appreciation for Carswell's interest. He then expounds upon the political situation of Senator Daniel and the unknown time of the special election which is causing the delay of his own announcement of intentions. He requests advice on the situation from Carswell and from others that are interested from his part of the state.

A form letter from Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, dated September 28, 1956. Shivers announces that he will support President Eisenhower, again, and do all he can toward his re-election advising that he enclosed a copy of his statement that was issued. He discourses on the privilege of voting and the reasons for his vote for Eisenhower over Stevenson. Enclosure includes a statement by the Governor, dated September 18, 1956. Announcement and explanation regarding his vote and support for President Eisenhower for re-election: "A brainwashing campaign is being waged against Texas voters, to convince them that the party is the most important issue -- not the candidate. This campaign is being conducted by persons who hold positions of party power and who want to strengthen and perpetuate themselves in those positions. Political parties are important, but they are a means to an end -- not the end itself."

A statement of Wright Morrow, including a description of the action by the State Democratic Executive Committee at its meeting in Austin as a complete capitulation to the demands of the National Party and highly placed politicians. Morrow advises of an attachment of newspaper editorials which he believes will be interesting to the reader: "Vacant Post"; "Sacrificial Calf"; "The Ousting Of Wright Morrow"; "Morrow-Shivers Break Causes Cleavage in Conservative Ranks"; "Wright Morrow Levels His Gun".

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Blanche [Mrs. Earl] Darden], Abilene, Texas, dated March 16. Blanche explains that she has been in the hospital unexpectedly and that Dr. Seth Cox will operate on her jaw meaning she will be off work four or five weeks. She apologizes and offers options of payment on her contract with Carswell.

A letter written to "Miss Emma Patterson" (Mrs. J. F. Daugharty), Fargo, Georgia from T. N. Carswell, dated January 20, 1956. Carswell expresses his sympathy to Daugharty on the death of her husband and reminisces about the past and how he knew her. Attached is a newspaper article printed by the Clinch County News, Homerville, Georgia, with an obituary titled "J. F. Daugharty Dies At Age 83".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from C. M. Caldwell, Abilene, Texas, dated June 12, 1956. Caldwell apologizes for forgetting the fish fry at Church the last evening describing the events of his day including Bill Ledbetter and Marvin Lewis inquiring as to where he had been and ends his apology with "I will have to admit, I am slipping, all I can say is thank you and forgive me."

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from George S. Anderson, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Hendrick Hospital dated August 6, 1956. Anderson issues an invitation to trustees to attend the service as E. M. Collier receives an honorary doctorate degree from Hardin-Simmons University.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated March 24, 1956. Notification by Collier of a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hendrick Memorial Hospital. An agenda is outlined including Dr. V. H. Shoultz to report on the radio isotope laboratory and the colbalt unit desired at Hendrick.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated December 26, 1956. Collier advises of an attached receipt and expresses his appreciation for the contribution and years of service rendered to Hendrick Hospital by Carswell. The receipt is dated December 24, 1956 for donation received of Mr. T. N. Carswell to Hendrick Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Texas and signed by C. H. Denning, Cashier.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from a parolee/inmate, in Weldon, Texas, dated January 1, 1956. Subject 108,345 expresses to Carswell his joyous feeling regarding his date of discharge which is to be on March 16. A portion of the envelope is also included in the record and is addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, and is postmarked from Weldon, Texas, on January 4, 1956.

A letter addressed to the Honorable John Ben Shepperd, Attorney General, Austin, Texas, from Wiley L. Caffey, Abilene, Texas, dated January 6, 1956. Caffey requests advisement by Shepperd on whether or not the setting aside of a sentence by the court in the discussed case restores citizenship and entitles the person convicted to vote.

A letter written to Mr. Ben Hawkins, Internal Revenue Department, Big Spring, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated April 19, 1956. Carswell advises Hawkins of letters written to and unanswered by the Coldwell Electric Co. of Big Spring relative to W-2 Forms for Subject OP 95040. Carswell requests that Hawkins contact the firm to request that the forms be sent, again.

Landes refers to Discharge Certificates for Subject No. 130,969 and advises of the date of discharge of May 7, 1956.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from a parolee in El Paso, Texas, dated December 20, 1956. The parolee advises of having been transferred to El Paso without consent and requests advice from Carswell regarding the "present difficulty".

A letter written to T. N. Carswell, Roy L. Duke, John Alvis, L. F. Gilmer and Clyde Fulwiler, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman. Announcement of a meeting for the Committee to nominate officers for Parramore Post 57, American Legion and the importance that the committee, every member, meet at this time and place.

A letter addressed to The Prudential Press, Newark, New Jersy, from T. N. Carswell, dated July 17, 1956. Carswell explains that he read an article printed in the AMERICAN LEGION Magazine about the signers of the Declaration of Independence that was written by Merle Sinclair. He then requests a copy of a booklet published by them that was recommended to him by Sinclair.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wright Morrow, Houston, Texas, dated October 17, 1956. Morrow expresses his appreciation for the compliments by Carswell on his ideas. Offering his viewpoint of the constitution Morrow states, "The real genius of our government, in my opinion, is the recognition of the paramount importance of the individual". He exposes the differences between "our" democracy and other nations that call themselves democracies: "This is the real difference between us and the other nations that call themselves democracies because no where else in the world is there such a reservation of power in the people themselves and such a recognition of the significance of the individual man and woman." He makes referrence to Weatherred and advises of the probability of a new governor making an appointment to the vacant Senate seat.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, from Jack Simmons and Max Mossholder, Co-Chairmen, Taylor County Eisenhower Committee, dated November 15, 1956. Simmons expresses the appreciation of the committee for Carswell's enthusiasm and contribution to the Eisenhower campaign discussing the unreasonable costs of a political campaign making Carswell's material and personal services invaluable.
