For eight years this party controlled the state government of Texas and, the Negro's participation during this period cannot be overlooked. The Negro possessed, at this time, two valuable assets, the right of suffrage and a strength in numbers. The following chapters report an exploratory study of reactions to two disasters, a tornado and floods, which struck Dallas, Texas, in the spring of 1957. Although the findings and discussion are presented in the context of a somewhat shortened version of the time sequence described above, the major emphasis is on the differential impact of the two types of disaster agents and on the reactions of victims to disaster situations.Two disasters had occurred in the Dallas area, both having a major effect upon Negro areas of residence in that city. Furthermore, a rapid, impressionistic survey of the two areas made by Doctor Harry E. Moore of the Department of Sociology of the University of Texas and Doctor H. J. Friedsam of the Department of Sociology of North Texas State University, suggested that the two areas were also homogeneous in income level and. possibly in other ways. 5 Hence, the situation presented an opportunity to study and compare the residents' reactions to two different disaster agents. More specifically, it was felt that an exploratory study to determine whether or not there was Qadifference in the responses of tho victims to the tornado and floods could be undertaken.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the public relations programs in selected Texas public school systems. From this evaluation, criteria were developed which will enable the administrators, particularly those in smaller school systems, to maintain stronger public relations programs. These public relations programs were evaluated in terms of the elements of sound public relations procedures.

In the analysis and evaluation of the role of the elementary school supervisor, the purpose was (1) to investigate relationships which might exist between certain personal and professional background characteristics of elementary school supervisors and the activities in which they engaged, (2) to determine the activities in which elementary school supervisors engaged, (3) to determine emphasis placed upon those activities in which elementary school supervisors engaged, and (4) to evaluate those activities in which elementary school supervisors engaged.

This study is an experiment to determine the effectiveness of high-speed drill on speed and accuracy achievement in the first semester of beginning typewriting at the high school level.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between selected criteria and academic achievement in graduate studies leading to certain master's degrees in education at North Texas State University. The major areas in education which were included were Elementary Education, Elementary School Administration and Supervision, Secondary Education, Secondary School Administration and Supervision, and Physical Education. Graduate grade-point average was used as the criterion for academic achievement.

The purpose of this study was to search for relationships of certain personal characteristics (authoritarianism, philosophy of social education, and instructional preferences) of a representative group of social studies student teachers to measures respectively of a) their classroom behavioral traits, b) their classroom teaching activities, and c) their pupils' classroom behavior.

There seemed to be an urgent need for the improvement of attitudes toward home experiences from the viewpoints of both homemaking teachers and homemaking pupils. Also, there appeared to be a need for the improvement of procedures used in planning, reporting, and evaluating home experiences. Because of these needs this study was made during the 1961-1962 school year in the Saint Jo High School, Saint Jo, Texas.

The purpose of the present study is fourfold: (1) to investigate the predicted relationships between self-acceptance and acceptance of others, (2) to investigate self-acceptance, acceptance of others, and their interrelationship with acceptance by others, (3) to investigate the patterns of interrelationship between self-acceptance, acceptance of others, actual acceptability to others, and predicted acceptability to others, and (4) to investigate an hypothesized curvilinear relationship between self-acceptance and acceptance of others.
