The buckle is mostly rectangular in shape with gradual, symmetrical curves cut into the top and bottom edges. A curving banner extends from the buckle's bottom left corner to its upper right corner with the words "Arkansas Sesquicentennial" cut into the banner's metal. In the bottom right corner of the buckle two tall trees, an oil rig, and two small plants that may be cotton have been carved into the buckle. Centered near the top edge of the buckle is a circle with "Arkansas" carved at the circle's top between the dates 1836 and 1986, with "Sesquicentennial" carved at the circle's bottom.
