Nolan was an Irish immigrant to the Texas-Louisiana area and a prolific horse trader and freebooter during the period of Spanish rule in Texas before Texas became a republic. The scrapbook contains articles about Nolan, photographs and photo copies, correspondence created for obtaining research materials, as well as snippets about Weaver's own life.
