This document is from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is an envelop sent for an unknown writer. The envelope is Addressed to Charles B. Moore who was located in Melissa, Texas. The postal stamp is from Nashville, Tennessee and it is dated May 13, 1890. The back of the envelop has a post marked stamp from Melissa, Texas with no date.

Mattie is apologetic that they can't answer Moore's questions on a weed. He tries to discuss the possibilities of the germination, but mentions that he is not that knowledgeable on the subject.

Letter from J. J. Crawford writes to Charles B. Moore to update him of the health and activities of friends and family members. He says that he would like to hear from Henry and be invited to Henry's wedding.

Letter from Alice McGee to her aunt and uncle, Mary and Charles Moore. She wrote about her trip home to Tennessee through New Orleans. She encountered a train wreck and saw flooding in Morgan City. Her letter that said that she was returning home had not arrived, so her arrival surprised her family.

Letter from Will McGee to his aunt and uncle, Mary and Charles Moore in which he thanked them for sending him drafting instruments. He said that the crops were being damaged by having too much rain. He also commented on the people who were leaving for "the promised land." He said that the Farmers and Laborers Union were proposing a new mill be built in Gallatin because the current mill was "robs people of half of what they have."

This is a letter from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Moore to Patty Brown. In the letter, Charles discusses the Annie Laura story and gives Brown a brief, yet detailed family history. Highlighting major life events, he notes how he was born in Gallatin, moved to Texas, and moved away from Texas during the war. He also details his work with mills,how he changed career paths, and when he was married. This letter is dated March 1891.

This is a draft from the personal papers of the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Moore on April 19, 1891. In this letter, Moore writes about an article written in the Dallas Weekly News on April 16 by D. B. Kiefer. The article details a "norther" that struck Texas in April of 1857. He states in this document that he writes to corroborate stories with the journalist, provide his experience through the "norther," and make a correction on the date given in Kiefer's article. The third and fourth page of this document includes genealogical accounts of Moore's descendants. He details the Wallace family and the history of some of the Wallace men who were part of an expedition sent on a charge to the Creek nation.

Letter from Birdie McGee to her cousin, Linnet Moore, talking about the sleet and snow that broke the trees. Her mother did laundry and hung then on the line and they are frozen there still. Her brother Will was going to singing school being taught by Mr. Moncreaf at the school. She got a new blue hat for Christmas. Grandpa has 8 little lambs. She writes to Hattie Love all the time. She went and stayed with Clemmie Albright for several days and went with Alice and Mr. Frank and had a nice time. On the back she wrote her alphabet with a little something about each letter.

Letter from Dinkie McGee talking about her flowers and garden. She also discusses neighbors, dresses they are making, and a new top buggy. There is also a letter from Birdie McGee to Linnet talking about getting her hat newly trimmed and her mother redoing her embroidered dress. She also mentions a new lounging chair they just purchased for $20.00. Also includes envelope from letter. Stamped on the back is Melissa, Texas July 5, 1893.

Letter talks about his job as a typesetter, the death of his brother, Lyke Winham, and his life insurance policy. He discusses the Republican party and its recent nominating convention, including the McKinley Bill. In addition, he discusses religion and the coming of a new Christ that is greatly needed. Also includes the original envelope.

Letter from Birdie McGee to Linnet Moore in which she says that her teacher's mother is ill and that they have called off school until Monday. She also spent time dressing up a pumpkin and making a doll. A class photograph was taken at her school. Matilda Dodd wrote to Linnet that Birdie's teacher was sick; that it had been very rainy; and that they are waiting to sow the wheat. Alice Griffin wrote about her family's new buggy; the cold weather; and about her improving health.

Letter to Linnet Moore in which the writer, Birdie McGee, states that everyone is well. Her school is out because the teacher's mother is so ill that school was dismissed entirely. She has since heard that the mother died. She has started a quilt. She thinks Clemmie Albright looks better in a corset and wants one too.

Letter from Lila Franklin to Linnet Moore in which she expressed her happiness with being able to visit with Linnet. Lila was grateful that Linnet's parents were willing to make the trip to Tennessee. Lila says that Mr. Bounds has bought a new buggy.

Priest is very sick and weak. They have had to watch him because he gets up at night. He then mentions the weather and the need for rain. Solomon returned and is looking at land to purchase. Solomon received a letter from Clarence, but it did not mention if he had a fever. Neal did not go to church, but instead went fishing. Brother Carr came again and gave him shorthand and theology. He is getting mixed messages on the shorthand. He then talks about theology. Neal is going to Melissa. He talks about working on a grain drill. He mentions the weather again and the harvest flies. He talks about the peaches he has and inquires about their peach orchard. His California visitors have not made it to him yet and he wonders what is keeping them. He is expecting Lila, her baby, Aunt T and John or Neal to go with him to town. He talks about the crops and the most current condition of Priest.

Anna Boyd writes that Will's twins are in school and the new baby always wants to be outside. The school district is putting a suspension foot bridge for the children to cross on. He hoped they enjoyed themselves and wanted to go with them to visit family. John has only one son to help him farm and Will has two, but they are still too young. H. S. Moore writes that John will finish gathering corn, and he lifted a sheep out of mud. He mentions the clouds and that Anna Boyd's letter is included in the envelope. He also says that Priest has improved a little.

She was glad to hear from them because she was afraid that they had gone home and forgotten about her. She mentions that Mrs. Joyner would like to go back to Texas with them and is an old schoolmate of Mrs. Moore. She wants to get her father to go with her to Texas, but will not be able to go this year. Her mother is going to Arkansas to see her son. She received a copy of the "Democrat" by Mr. Moore of her trip to McKinney.

He was glad to get news from all of them. He then mentions the weather they have been experiencing. He hopes Priest and Netty are doing better and mentions Bett Wallace's improvement. Mary and Betty went to Tobe's and on the way back got caught in the rain. He went to town with Abe and also got caught in the rain on the way back. He went to Dinkie's place and met his new cousin-in-law. Mary has some sewing she needs to get done before they can leave, but he will try to leave as soon as he can. He expects to see some more visitors and he wishes he could share the good food he is enjoying. He mentions the weather again and says he expects a lot of news when he returns home.

He mentions the improvements of Priest's health. He fixed their fence because the Webb's cows kept getting into their field. He is having a good time with Brother Carr and translating shorthand. One of the Stiff boys killed a black man last Saturday. He talks about farming and the weather. Neal is in Waxahachie, Texas and is pursuing a writing career. He talks about Buck and how he has learned some obedience. He mentions that the only thing keeping them from starving is milking the cow to have milk and butter. He talks about the weather and the need to go to McKinney for supplies. He read an article in the Phonographic Magazine.

She talks about the new cook they got and her daughter that keeps her company. Uncle Simon died. Aunt Bettie came and asked them to come visit soon. Her aunt sent her some fruit and she sent some back. She mentions the discussion of where her Grandmother will now live. She writes that she is worried over their horse Mollie. She mentions how Will never visits them or pays his debts and asks for advice from the Moores. She asks about Henry's health and if Carly Thompson is married. She sends samples of the dresses she is making.

Letter from Alice Griffin to the Charles B. Moore family. She writes that she is unwell and able to do little but tend to the baby. She says that Florence Dodd is unwell and Florence and her husband Tobe are having a hard time financially. She describes her baby, Lillian Griffin. Included with the letter are swatches of fabric that she has used to make clothing.
