From abstract: This report presents preliminary results of ground water reconnaissance in the Winston-Salem National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) 1° x 2° quadrangle. This report is issued as a supplement to SRL Document DPST-77-146-1, GJBX-66(77), which contained a geologic description of the area and analytical results for stream sediment samples.

From abstract: This report presents preliminary results of stream sediment and ground water reconnaissance in the Greensboro National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) 1° x 2° quadrangle. Stream sediment samples were collected from small streams at 1240 sites for a nominal density of one site per 13 square kilometers (five square miles) in rural areas. Ground water samples were collected at 774 sites for a nominal density of one site per 25 square kilometers (ten square miles).

An envelope that is torn and stained has a postal stamp on the front stating that it was sent from Gallatin, Tennessee. On the back is a message dated June 13, 1878. The note talks about a visit from Dudley and the children, letters received this week, and the weather.

From explanation: This map is based on water level measurements made in wells screened in the Eocene Memphis Sand (formerly "500-foot sand"). Monthly low-water levels for the month of August, 1978 from USGS maintained recorder equipped wells and supplemental measurements made on August 22 and 23 of private and industrial wells were used as control. Water levels are commonly at their lowest for the year during late August of early September (Criner and Parks, 1976).

From introduction: This report describes an alternative approach to developing flood frequency characteristics, and presents results of the application of that technique to small streams in the urban and sub-urban areas of Memphis, Tennessee. The tool used is a regression model, with variations. The use of a parametric rainfall runoff model is not attempted in the analysis.
