The first half of the scrapbook is composed of newspaper articles that have been pasted onto the pages and some that were inserted in between the book's pages. The articles are from Confederate states and contain news, poems, and stories centered around the Civil War and the time after. The second half of the book served as a ledger for the family to keep track of their expenses.

Interview with Eva McMillan, a civil rights activist from Tennessee. McMillan discusses growing up in the segregated South, her family, early involvement in civil rights, experiences of racism and discrimination, her son Ernie's establishing a chapter of the SNCC at UT Arlington, Ernie's arrests and imprisonment, founding various advocacy and activism groups in Dallas, milestones and tragedies of the Civil Rights Movement, conflict with the police and the decline of the SNCC, and reflections on her work. In appendix are photos of McMillan and Dallas-area civil rights activists, a flier, and newspaper clippings.

The interview includes Cerny's personal experiences about being a combat infantryman in the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II, joining the Illinois National Guard, federalization of the Illinois National Guard, training at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, shipping to Camp Darwin, Australia, and combat around Mount Austen on Guadalcanal. Additionally, Cerny talks about the formation of the American Division and landings at New Caledonia, transferring of the division to Guadalcanal, the fate of Japanese prisoners-of-war, evacuation to the Fiji islands for rest and recuperation, landings on Bougainville, patrol and reconnaissance activities on Bougainville, his rotation back to the States, stateside duty as a drill instructor at Fort McClellan, and his postwar career.

They talk about their meeting and early relationship, give descriptions of Denver's gay and lesbian communities, their involvement with various groups such as the Daughters of Bilitis and Gay Liberation Front, their decision to move to Dallas, their involvement with groups such as the National Organization for Women and Dallas Gay Political Caucus/Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance in various political campaigns, and Young's career at Texas Instruments and Raytheon and efforts to create more equitable human resources policies from within the corporations. Additionally, Armstrong and Young talk about the effects of the HIV-AIDS crisis on Dallas's gay and lesbian communities, their 2008 marriage, relationships with family members, and secrets to a long relationship.
