Newspaper clipping describing the life and career of Gypsy Ted Sullivan Wylie (December 10, 1890-October 16, 1978). Wylie served as dean of the McMurry College Department of Fine Arts for more than 20 years and founded The Chanters.

Dominant genera of bacteria were isolated from three river waters during anthracene and pentachlorophenol biotransformation studies. The genera Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Micrococcus, Chromobacterium, Alcaligenes, Azomonos, Bacillus, and Flavobacterium were capable of biotransforming one or both of these compounds. These isolates were subjected to further biotransformation tests, including river water and a basal salt medium with and without additional glucose. The results of these experiments were evaluated statistically. It was concluded that only a limited number of the bacteria identified were able to transform these chemicals in river water. The addition of glucose to the growth medium significantly affected the biotransformation of these chemicals. It was also determined that the size of the initial bacterial population is not a factor in determining whether biotransformation of anthracene or pentachlorophenol can occur.

This letter is from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Laura Jernigan, who was cousin to Charles. In her letter, Jernigan states that she has not kept up correspondence with Charles and Mary due to her daily chores, but also because she was ill for a month with a cough that wouldn't go away. She notes that she is ill again with a cold, though she has no cough this time. She updates Charles on family who have visited her and details that her and the children will be traveling to Sherman next week to visit the Wallace's if all goes according to plan. This trip to Sherman will be her first in seven years. Jernigan points out the the Moore family must be having a wonderful time in Gallatin, Tennessee. She expresses her happiness for Mary who was able to visit her family, but who was also able to see her home state. She fears that she will never see Tennessee again. This is a letter from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Laura Jernigan to Mary Ann Moore. In the letter, Jernigan informs Moore of the goings-on in her community. The news includes: health updates on her and her family, news about Parry coming home, a discussion about the crops and general agricultural news, community gossip, a dialogue about killing and hanging meat to cure, details about how many community members and kin in Tennessee are losing their meat due to the warm winter, and news about Walter Barron shooting Watts last week. She closes the letter by noting that one of her children will be down to visit with Mary soon and she hopes that Mary could visit her soon as well. She send her love to all. The envelope is included with the letter.
