An Ecological Survey of the Vertebrate Fauna of White Oak Lake and Environs
From introduction: This report is a survey of the composition and abundance of the various species of fish present. Other features to be noted are the rate of growth and the condition of the individual fish as indicated by the relationship between the length and weight. In addition, observations on the success of reproduction, the ability of any species to maintain itself as an integral part of the population and food supply.

An Investigation of the Chattanooga Black Shale of Tennessee as a Source of Uranium Progress Report: July 1, 1956-June 30, 1957
From introduction: The primary aim of this study is to present as complete a geologic picture as possible, of the Chattanooga shale in its outcrop area of the Eastern Highland Rim and the Northern Highland Rim of Tennessee and adjacent Kentucky. Special emphasis has been placed upon the stratigraphic relationships and their implications upon the age and manner of origin of the sediments and upon the origin, source, and distribution of uranium in the shale.

The Chattanooga Shale of Tennessee as a Source of Uranium: Final Report
From major objective: The over-all aim of the study has been to obtain a thorough geologic picture of the Chattanooga shale in the area under consideration, with emphasis upon stratigraphic relationships and associated special problems from which, in turn, implications may be obtained as to the origin and age of the formation and possibly the source of the uranium. The study has not been aimed primarily at exploration for uranium and its economic aspects.

Fast-Neutron and Gamma Spectrum and Dose in Beryllium Oxide

Growth and Movement of Smallmouth Buffalo, Ictiobus Bubalus (Rafinesque), in Watts Bar Reservoir, Tennessee
The smallmouth buffalo fish, Ictiobus bubalus (Rafinesque), population of Watts Bar Reservoir, of the Tennessee River down stream from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, was investigated in order to describe its age distribution, growth rates, dispersion, and importance as an accumulator of radionuclides. Measurements and scale samples were taken from commercially-caught fish and fish caught in the ORNL tagging operations. Scale impressions were anaiyzed for age and growth phenomena. Dispersion of smallmouth buffalo was investigated by conventional of ging methods and by autoradiographic analyses of scales. Stable and radiochemicsl composition of scales was examined by spectrographic analysis, flame spectrophotometer and radiometric surveys. Calcium was the most abundance element in fish scales with at lease twenty-three other elements present in varying quantities. Fish scaless and bone were found to contain radionuclides of ruthenium, cesium, zirconium, zinc, and cobalt. Radiometric surveys of scales revealed the Watts Bar Reservoir smallmouth buffalo population was a relatively minor accumulator of radionuclides with only 0.08 per cent showing the presence of artificially produced radionuclides. Approximately 6 per cent of the Clinch River fish and 77 per cent of the White Oak Creek fish had accumulations. Limited data on dispersion were determined from conventional tags. This report studies the fluvial-terrace deposits in northwestern Tennessee with the intention of establishing a means of correlating disjunct terrace segments along the Obion River that is independent of terrace height, to document the stratigraphy of selected terrace deposits, and to estimate their numerical ages.

Potentiometric Map of the Memphis Sand in the Memphis Area, Tennessee, August 1978
From explanation: This map is based on water level measurements made in wells screened in the Eocene Memphis Sand (formerly "500-foot sand"). Monthly low-water levels for the month of August, 1978 from USGS maintained recorder equipped wells and supplemental measurements made on August 22 and 23 of private and industrial wells were used as control. Water levels are commonly at their lowest for the year during late August of early September (Criner and Parks, 1976).
