The following report covers a reconnaissance for radioactive materials that was made in parts of Maine, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. It's primary objective was to examine the iron ore deposits and associated rocks in Adirondack Mountains of New York and the Highlands of New Jersey. Additionally, several deposits known or reported to contain radioactive minerals were examined to delimit their extent. However, most of the deposits examined are not significant as possible sources of radioactive elements and the data pertaining to them are summarized in tables provided.

From introduction: In his report on the Geology of Pennsylvania,' Professor Lesley summarizes his opinion upon the geology of the South Mountains and Formation No. 1. In this, Formation No. 1 is referred to the Upper Cambrian, and a detailed description is given of its occurrence along the South Mountains and across the State to the Delaware. The superjacent limestone, No. 2, is referred to the Ordovician.' Fuller reference will be made to Professor Lesley's descriptions in speaking of the rocks of York County.

From introduction: In December, 1892, as the result of field work on the part of Dr. G. H. Williams in the northern and of the writer in the southern portion of South Mountain, there appeared a preliminary description of two of the rock types, in which their identification as ancient volcanics was announced. In this bulletin it is proposed to substantiate that identification with more detailed proof. It is further proposed to show that these ancient igneous rocks were, at the time of their consolidation, identical in character with their recent volcanic analogues, and that their present differences are due to subsequent changes, chief among which has been devitrification. It is also proposed to recognize these facts in the nomenclature.

Introduction: By way of introduction a section will be described across the Devonian of the northeastern part of Monroe County, Pa., along the line of Brodhead Creek and the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. The base of this section will rest on the Corniferous limestone well exposed in a railroad cut a mile south of East Stroudsburg and the termination will b6 in the Pocono, as exposed on the Pocono Mountains, from Mount Pocono to the ridge northwest of Tobyhanna.

From purpose and scope: This report provides basic information on the ground-water resources of Chester County, Pennsylvania, which is an area of about 760 square miles (1970 meters) in southeastern Pennsylvania. It discusses the availability and quality of the water in the water-bearing units in the county and the relation of the ground water to surface water.

From introduction: This report contains the findings of the first full year of data collected as part of a 3-year study to measure sediment discharges in the East Branch Mahoning Creek during installation of erosion and sedimentation controls by the surface miners.

From abstract: Channel-routing models were used to route hypothetical releases from reservoirs in the upper Tioga River basin, Pennsylvania. These releases were routed northward down the Tioga River to Lindley, Erwins, and Corning, New York; combined with flows routed down the Cohocton River from Campbell to Corning, New York; and then routed southeastward down the Chemung River from Corning to Chemung, New York. The models used to route the flows of Cohocton and Chemung Rivers accounted for bank-storage discharge and streamflow depletion by well pumpage. In general, 17 years of concurrent streamflow data were available for model calibration and verification.

The model discussed in this report simulates recharge to, flow through, and discharge from the water-table aquifer representative of most of Chester County, Pennsylvania. It includes maps and graphs.

From introduction: This report describes rainfall-runoff modeling for three subbasins of the West Branch Brandywine Creek basin. Effects of increased runoff from continued urbanization of the basin and of proposed flood-control structures for both the present and projected population are evaluated for the West Branch Brandwyne Creek at Coatesville and Modena and for Sucker Run at State Route 82.

This report examines the effects of a highway construction project on suspended-sediment loads, concluding that the construction caused sixteen-thousand tons of sediment to be discharged and produced fifty percent of the total sediment discharge. It contains tables and graphs.

Purpose: This investigation by the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Warminster Municipal Authority, has three purposes: (1) to determine how urbanization has affected ground water and low streamflow in Warminster Township and parts of the surrounding municipalities; (2) to describe the hydrologic system; and (3) to assess the availability of ground water.
